Magnifying Glass Work.

 Magnifying Glass Work.

When Lewis had his cataracts removed, he was able to see quite well without glasses. It was a bit like seeing a horse that had been kept in a halter all its life being released and running without any encumberments. Not sure he would have appreciated my comparison here, but that was how it struck me. He still had glaucoma and had to use some drops, but he could see! Anyway, his experience made me hope that having the cataracts removed would release me from the necessity of wearing glasses. Nope. Not yet, at any rate. Only one eye repaired, but since the two eyes don’t exactly work well together, not going to get my hopes up. And lately, if any really small stuff needs to be examined, it takes a magnifying glass to help my vision. For instance, the tiny numbers and letters on the AC units are not clear at all. And yesterday the AC unit in the kitchen was just blowing hot air. Joy! Got on the computer and checked with the Lowe’s website to see how much it would cost to get a new AC and have it installed. Finally, just went to bed and promised myself to think about it in the morning. Sometime this morning it occurred to me that a repair person might could fix this one. And it made me wonder if it was messed up the last time the filter had to be cleaned and the little metal things brushed off. Got up early and got out the magnifier. The little metal thing that tells the condenser the temperature had been knocked loose. Refitted that and brushed the metal things again. Looked carefully at all the settings under the magnifying glass and reset those. Oh boy! It is working like a champ!! It makes me feel like God just blessed me with those extra little thoughts to try again and not give up. It may not freeze out the kitchen table with eggs on it, but they will definitely stay cooler than before.

Went out to the chicken coop earlier and changed out the ice packs in the nests. The hens were happy with sitting on them. All three eggs were in the nest with the best ice pack. Still have replaced all the water under the deck to keep them a bit cooler, but they have not been running around in the back yard since about 9 or 9:30. It is just too dadgummed hot out there in the sunshine.

Saw that Lance and Tracy’s neighbor posted a recipe someone gave her for Texas caviar. It called for black-eyed peas and peppers. We used to make a type of Texas caviar around here: extra large black olives stuffed with cream cheese. Talk about yummy! Guess the cream cheese could have some peppers mixed into it, but whatever suits the person who makes it would be the easiest. Lance and Rachel like that strange tabasco sauce. To each his own. Maybe my tastebuds will change again someday.

Shared a sandwich with my dogs today. Thompson said he did not care for the dill pickle taste, thank you very much. Sylvia did not mind. She likes mayo anyway. It seems my grocery lists often revolve around what will be cooked and shared with the critters. At least we are not gaining weight in this heat.

Have not seen anything online about Kay, but will check again later this evening. Probably should just use her phone number and get an answer that way to see how things went.

Saw that in Indiana some dipstick shot up some folks in a mall’s food court. He killed some and wounded a couple before a gentleman with a concealed license took out the shooter. The police called him a good Samaritan and hero. Sitting here nodding my head. The shooter used a long gun and the hero used a pistol. It pays to be aware of your surroundings—exits and entrances are important. But it made me wonder how the guy with the long gun got into the mall without anyone noticing his gun. It’s not like this old woman goes that many places, but that little pistol goes with me wherever. Don’t want to EVER have to use it, but know how and would.

Moved my desk at an angle to the AC here in the living room. Even the dogs appreciate that cool air blowing on them. Dear Hearts, we need to pray that God will send us better weather and the rain that is so desperately needed. It is not just America that is suffering. England is in trouble, too. They really are not as prepared as we are for this kind of heat. Let us pray that God will relieve us all before all of Europe begins to suffer as badly as we are currently.

Will just remind you that we are in His hands each day and night. Praise God and thank Him for all blessings. Take care of yourselves and slow down your thoughts and actions right now. Let us be calm and aware of the joys in this life. You are loved.
