Hurry Up and Mess Up!

Yup. It does not take much to run into the big wooden door going out the kitchen door, so that is exactly what happened. Tore the belt loop on one of the maroon pairs of slacks. Only have four pairs of those things--two maroon, one olive green, and one black pair. They are so comfortable. They were bought at Walmart, but the only thing Walmart has in JMS (just my size) is the big stuff. Don't think a size 16 really should be included as that big. But then, my size has not been an eight since leaving home and beginning to cook for Lewis. Oh well.

Just finished taking water out to the hen house in both the bottles and a bucket for the water with the heater. Really dread the cold weather that is supposed to hit us next week. It will be hard to keep the hens inside, but will give them some dog food--the tiny pellets that look like rabbit poo--to keep them satisfied. Of course, that means they will go through water--well, like water. So glad to have bought that stuff for the dogs. They are not that crazy about it, but the hens like it. Won't have any fresh green stuff for them, but such is life. Guess some veggies from the freezer might work. The bad stuff is supposed to start Monday night and just keep getting worse until it gets better. Can't imagine what it would be like to have to break ice on the stock tanks like Granddad Pollard used to do. He was one tough ol' guy.

Heard from Connie today. Think she and Rebekah plan to try to drive through and get home by the 14th. Will be glad when they get home and get in off the roads. I reminded her to have the antifreeze checked in Rebekah's truck, but who knows if she will think of it again. For that matter, who knows if mine is set up for the temps we are about to have! And for sure there is not a antifreeze tester in the workshop. Oh well. Not going anywhere any time soon. But maybe the guys at the oil change place will check it for me. Ah, just checked with Weaver's and my antifreeze should be ok. Furthermore, Connie and Rebekah are doing well so far (she just called), but they still need our prayers. They said that folks are acting as if there is no such thing as Covid up there!

Made biscuits from scratch this morning and had bacon and eggs over easy with some pepper jelly that Robin Christian made. Love that stuff! Anyway, it was a mighty tasty breakfast. Love that the oven makes the entire kitchen feel warm and cozy. May be using it next week to go with the heaters!

There is a blonde young woman who rode up the road on a tiny three-wheeler. She looks a bit like Jerry's sister Lisa, so maybe she got out of prison recently. Anyway, she seems to be working over there, but every time she shows her face where the dogs can see it, they go ape! Jerry came over earlier and wanted to buy some gasoline from me. That was an easy answer: don't have any. Really wish he would stay away from the house. The dogs are really on a tear right now about anyone coming up. They did not seem to mind when Sterling and Jacqui came up, but they even carried on when John Rhoads came to get the eggs off the porch yesterday. Would hate for them to get out and hurt someone.

Have not seen the puppy dogs that have been running around all over the neighborhood. Kinda makes me wonder if the city picked them up. Or maybe they have them in the house. Who knows.

The book called Texas, with Particular Reference to German Immigration& The flora, Fauna, Land and Inhabitants as Observed in 1845-1847. It was written by Dr. Ferdinand Roemer, and it came today and was wrapped so completely that it was pretty strange. Plastic bag made like a sleeve, corrugated, heavy paper, and then a burlap bag! Thinking that burlap bag is going to be turned into something with embroidery on it. Really neat bag. The only thing neater would be a bag that could fit egg cartons inside. But maybe it could fit the dozen size boxes. Still, want to keep this one around. My egg bags just come home occasionally. Dr. Blackwell is coming to pick up eggs tomorrow to get two 18 count boxes.  A dozen eggs a day is about what the girls are doing right now.

Asked Dr. Blackwell to order some stuff for my back-shoulders, and she put in the order shortly thereafter. Want you to know, it is totally wonderful to have a doctor who listens and wants to help. Anyway, taking the Rx for muscle spasms means that taking them before driving is a no-no. A person has to consider such stuff sometimes. Changed to a different Rx for one situation and the new drug made me drowsy, so that one had to be taken at night. Now my night time pill box looks pretty full. Oh well. But then, if my vitamins were in little squares like that, they would not fit!

Got to tell you that it is fun to give things to people when they don't expect them. Betting that Michelle Malay knows exactly what that means. She is always doing something neat and bringing things to the house for the "critters." She told me that she had a light for me that will fit on my head. Have my own vision of what it will look like--cyclops! My hens may think they are being invaded some night. Giggling.

Ok, the birds for today are the Western Grebes. They look like they DANCE on the water. And their heads look like big handled dippers. Will post at the bottom of this blog.

Whatever you decide to do for the next two days, think about praying for those who are so ill right now--from whatever disease or illness. Our bodies' health makes the difference in our attitudes, so let us pray for our nation and our friends and family with fervent desire.

Rest well and rejoice in life. You are loved.
