Swingin' on a Gate!

Lewis used to have expressions he used for frustrating tasks which will go unpublished on this blog. But today it seemed that at least one expression would have been dagblasted appropriate. Hung a gate--twice. The first time both little metal posts were pointed up. Nope. It is supposed to have one up and one down so someone can't just reach over and lift the gate off the posts and walk off with it. SO, rehung it with only slightly fewer cuts and scrapes the second time. It is definitely not Lewis quality hanging, but it is up there. Then had to wrap a chain around it to slow down anyone trying to open it. Need to go over to Warren Cat and see if they will sell me another CAT lock. Not sure they sell them. Have four currently in use and could use two more. Maybe tomorrow will call and ask them if they sell the things to plain ol' folks or if they only sell them to Cat owners.

Have been doubled over in pain a couple of times today--and that's not counting the nose job Sylvia gave me when trying to reach for her tennis ball at the same time she reared up under me. Think tomorrow will see a message sent to Dr. Blackwell.  Maybe she will let me have some more muscle relaxers. Have three left from the last time this happened. Everything will just seem to be doing fine before a spasm takes over in my upper back. Yes, some hammering and stuff have taken place today as some clear siding was applied to the top and bottom of the chicken house door, but dang! Didn't expect a little shuffling around like that to cause troubles. Maybe old age has something to do with it? At least if anyone ever needs a sample of my DNA, try the chicken house door or the gate next to the driveway!

Talked to Sterling this afternoon. He said they called a realtor in Henrietta about a house, but it had just been put under contract about an hour before he called. Figures. But he said it was awfully good to get home and rest. Understand that feeling. Not that my body has been anywhere except one little flying trip to see BillyeRuth. Hope her city hens are behaving themselves. Almost bet they aren't.

Did discover something today! My Black Marans have sisters who are also Marans--so much for thinking that they were Barred Rocks. They are a different kind of Marans, but they also lay the chocolate eggs. [Not REAL chocolate--just the deep brown color] Anyway, got a dozen eggs out of the nests today. They girls must be pretty happy with what they are eating and the snacks thrown over the fence. Have to go out there and pull a few handfuls of grass every day or so. They love that green stuff.

Moved the couch this morning so that the back faced the east windows. Now each dog has its own window, but they have to actually stand up to see out the window. Thompson hangs off the back of the couch and props his chin up on the AC unit. Sylvia does this neck stretch thing while she is propped up on one of the throw pillows. Silly dog. But now the living room looks much bigger, and there is a way to easily watch the TV without having to move my chair. Going to watch more Spanish princess tonight. Certainly do appreciate having this fire stick thingy. Jennifer and Gary are very good to me.

The bird for the day is a Black Restart. Small Passerine Bird

The black redstart is a small passerine bird in the redstart genus Phoenicurus. Like its relatives, it was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family, but is now known to be an Old World flycatcher. Other common names are Tithy's redstart, blackstart and black redtail.

Asked Bing about this bird and wanted to know if it was native to the U.S. and was told all about Blacks being brought to this country. Good grief. By the way, it is a European bird.

The Jerusalem Post was discussing the deaths of some older rabbis and how the members who followed them insisted that they WOULD attend the funeral and the mourning rituals. The leaders of that country insist that doing so is going to cause more infections from Covid. Here this ol' woman sits thinking about the Maccabees and their insistence that assembling together in worship was not only their right, but their duty. Most of you know what my opinion is going to be. Anyone who wants to stay away from that particular sect of the Jewish faith are more than welcome to stay away from them--THEY stay away from others as much as possible already. They just insist that it is their right to worship as they see fit. Anyway, the world does not revolve around some disease--at least not yet.

Just thought you might like to know, attempting to write a blog on blogger does not give the same options as Microsoft Word in general. When it is transferred to FB it has a tendency to change even more. So be patient with me if something doesn't come out with good line spacing. So much for housekeeping here.

Bronna McNeely is a young woman who taught at American Commercial College. She and Don Dobbins and Daniel Hernandez are the only ones who ever heard me spell RE-CE-IVE in front of my class. Yes, Made a singy-songy thing out of that one. But generally speaking students knew how to spell receive when they got out of my English class. They also knew better--well, MOST of the knew better--than to use the To Whom It May Concern bit. Argh. Anyway, welcome Bronna to the blog fest here.

Can you believe it is supposed to be 73 tomorrow! Oh JOY!!

Well, listen to me crow about the weather now because when it starts going over a hundred degrees--well, you know how it is. Misery loves to wallow in it.

Speaking of wallowing: listened to 60s music today until they started playing Country Western heart breakers. No wonder cowboys drink!

Connie told me today that it may be the 21st before they get home from Maryland. Certainly do hope the kitties are doing well with their lady who is taking care of them. But Connie has probably talked to her already. My dogs would not do well without me around. They are spoiled rotten--just the way they should be. Well, so are my hens, for that matter.

Have an abundance of eggs right now. Not sure when Michelle will be here next, so if anyone local needs eggs, let me know. After this week, all the eggs will be put in dozen boxes instead of the 18 count cartons. Used up the last of the 18s today. Who can turn down free fresh eggs, huh!

Really don't know much that might interest anyone tonight. Will say that the last of the Murphy's Luck books was just as silly and refreshing at the first two. SO glad that someone writes that sort of thing. It reminds me a little bit of Mary Poppins and her antics. Even the Chim chim chiminee song.

May you all realize how blessed we are and find joy in being grateful. You are loved.
