Cloudy Day.
Looks like it might rain eventually, but not with any true
promises. Anyway, put the zero-turn mower back in the workshop to protect it
from as much stuff as possible. Plan to have new doors put on the workshop that
will prevent all the crud from getting all over things in there. Still have a
BUNCH of stuff to either give away or otherwise dispose of. Slowly but surely.
Would like for it to be cleaned out and then rearranged, but it is not like
moving furniture in the house and using a vacuum. The shop vac might work well
in there, however. Hmm.
Michelle Malay promised to give me a call this morning when
she is on her way to town. She does not come to WF very often—usually just for
doctors’ appointments or some such. But we usually have a good visit—and my dogs
think she is something special. Which she is!
A man came yesterday and mowed the grass in Suzanne Priddy’s
yard and alongside the road. It almost looks decent down there now. Her yard
has lots of stuff in it, but at least the grass is cut down. He did not cut a
path behind her fence for a fire break, but maybe it doesn’t matter. When it
gets dry this summer, the lot next to hers will be a fire hazard unless the
city comes in and mows it. If they do, it won’t be long before that lot will be
up for sale.
Clint and Sandy had someone come in to mow the lots where
the “modular” home is next to them. It looks so nice. Eventually someone will
buy the place. Just hoping whoever it is will be a good neighbor. Can’t imagine
the place will be cheap, so maybe that will make a difference—or not. Have seen
some really nice homes with really tacky people living in them. Such is life.
Well, Michelle was not feeling too great, so she did not
make it to town today. Maybe next Friday.
Walked the east lots and observed the number of poppies
blooming. Not as many as it could have been considering all the seeds put out,
but at least the bachelor buttons are up and some are blooming. Hate to mention
it, but we need rain again. Texas.
Finished reading a book a bit ago and then downloaded the
sequel to it. The main character is a postal employee who has come back to the
area where she grew up and most of her family still lives there. A great
description of a “canning party” reminded me of all the oodles and gobs of
stuff we used to can—here and down on the farm. Mother-in-law was quite the
cook and quite the homemaker for things like canning vegetables and putting up
fryers in the freezer. And she made the best chow chow that anyone ever lapped
a lip on! Sometimes it is so easy to miss things like that. It was hard, hard
work, but we never had store bought beets, beans, blackeye peas, corn, or
anything with tomato in it. One year the old woman had bushels of tomatoes to
put up all by herself when father-in-law brought the tomatoes here to the house
and told me he was leaving them for me to can. Lewis put his foot down about
that when he came home and found me covered in tomato sauce from head to foot
and just dragging from trying to get it all done by myself. His dad usually
sold all his garden stuff to the grocery stores here in town, but they would
not take the tomatoes that day. And Garland did not take them home to Joy to
have her can them. Have a pretty good guess what she would have told him.
Got out earlier today and used the weed eater to clean up
around the edge of the house in back and then around the fence on the west
side. The battery ran down before it was all finished anyway. Just thought you
might like to know: weed eating can be hard on a body! Will have to call Ben
and see if he will bring his weed eater and get the rest of the fence line
cleaned up. Still have some work to do on the front flower bed before putting
in any bedding plants. Would really like to put in cucumbers rather than
flowers now. We will see what happens.
Sent most of the family e-cards from Jacqui Lawson. Really
like the music and animation in those things. And the cost is great with a
membership—zero cost. No “Easter” cards sent, but plenty of thinking goes into
the kind sent. Passover is not one of the subjects of their cards, but one can
focus on God’s love in other ways.
Still have not washed off all the grass pieces, so will go
do that. May each of you enjoy the weekend and look forward to each day.
Remember, please, those who have had surgery like Tami and Lexie, and those who
are about to have surgery like Sterling.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
