Got ‘er Done!
The potato salad (minus eggs) is mixed up. Tasted a small
bowl of it to decide if it was decent. Lewis would have approved. MIGHT need a
tad more salt, but it will do just like it is. Also, have the onions all
chopped up in separate containers for those who want those on their hotdogs.
Three separate kinds of onions are in the containers. If they are not used, it
will be easy to use them here at home. Then the watermelon bowl is ready to go
as well. Just bought that one rather than trying to cut up a melon. Let’s hope
it is good. Can smell onions in the fridge, so am hoping the watermelon has not
taken on that flavor!!
Read some more of DeHann’s Daniel this morning. Not all that
fond of his writing style, but might still learn something from the book. It is
at least a good reminder.
Monday it is already! Got a call from the plumber and took
off for the church. Let the secretary know we had a plumber on the way so she
could call the deacon (Jim) and unlock the door. Anyway, the plumber took out
the falling apart water heater and fixed the pipes. Jim said that he would like
to put a nicer counter in that room. Personally, this old woman just wants the
room to work and not have to weave my way down the halls to get to the ladies’
room!! The expense was not even as much as they told us. It was $156. That is
so very cheap considering what we expected. Anyway, the deacon said that they
could put in a tankless water heater later that would work. Whatever.
Discussing insurance with the deacon, it seemed to me that
the church only REALLY needs liability insurance. If the monthly payments for
insurance were going to be $1500 a month, putting that much in an account with
some return would work better than insurance. Yes, the place could burn down or
blow away, but having a little faith might be better in the long run! Just my
opinion.
We started getting things together to do a church directory
of members—being able to put pictures and names together seems wonderful to me.
It truly was enjoyable to have the church social with most of the ladies from
Sunday school. Too bad not all the ladies attended!
One of the ladies who recently joined the church tried to go
over the lesson with us this Sunday. She did not have a teacher’s manual, so it
felt as if she was simply going cold turkey. Not my idea of a good way to prep
for a class. She is braver than this old woman. But she likes to talk, so there’s
that.
Wishing that Bible study this Wednesday were really going to
be about the Bible and not some ideas about “soul winning.” Not my idea of a
Bible study. Have no problem talking to just about anyone, but refuse to push
my ideas on some stranger unless the person asks. Let God do the preparation;
the old woman has no trouble giving an answer for her faith. But handing out
pieces of paper as if a Morman or Jehovah’s Witness is not my bag. Just how it
is.
My friend Judie came today to pick up some plants that were
repotted just for her. She got “Herman” the cactus, some aloe vera, and aloe
pups. Probably should have kept some pups, but just have decided not to have
plants in the house again. Too many little ants and assorted critters bother
me. Planted the oxalis in the herb bed along with an amaryllis bulb that had
been in the house. That was one huge amaryllis! Still have coleus and lobelia
in the flower pot that Jennifer gave me. Those will come back in before frost
this fall. Think those are going to be the only plants for inside the house.
The flowers in the narrow tables out front got a good soaking in the rain last
night. They look so very pretty right now. Here’s hoping they can make it
through the summer with enough water and petting.
Haven’t looked at any news today. Sometimes it just feels
better to avoid getting upset by what is going on in the world. Sharon
Dickerson said her son David worries all the time about what is in the news. No
sense in watching or listening if we can’t turn things over to God to handle.
We can pray for folks and situations, but we already know what the eventual
outcomes will be. Praise God!
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
