Not Even Tempted?
Maggie and David Sewell brought me a great big grocery sack
of fresh green beans to clean, snap, and cook. That part is done and have even
had a great big bowl full for din-upper. But nary a person to whom some have been
offered will take me up on a bowl or bate full! Now, what is a person to think
about folks who don’t take fresh green beans to eat this time of year? Maybe
just not asking the right folks? Since the granddaughter will be here Monday,
maybe she will take some home to her parents. If they decide not to eat them,
at least maybe they will be kind enough not to mention it.
Got out early and worked my little tutu off this morning.
Last night stepped into the big bathroom to find an amberlink pullet looking at
me from the rim of the stock tank. Figured the floor would be covered by chicks
if something did not cover up the brood right then and there. Threw a couple of
lace curtains over the tank and went back to bed. Got up this morning and replaced
the doors to an older coop for chicks in the main coop since no one was going
to show up today to get anything else done. Put the hens’ egg laying baskets on
top of the little brooder and inserted two water holders and a feeder in the
brooder. Took my handy-dandy laundry basket to the stock tank and filled it up
with protesting chicks. Dumped their happy hineys in the coop. Just went out
and cleaned their water containers and checked the feeder. Tomorrow will be
soon enough to change a feeder type for them. Too many chicks for a small
feeder, so a larger one will have to do. Such fun! My bathroom suddenly feels
MUCH bigger without that stock tank in there!
Jennifer and Gary got to go on another adventure early this
morning. Luna and Marty (dogs) got out the gate that the lawn people did not
close correctly. They found a field with an oil well or something in it along
with plum bushes, cow patties, a stale standing water tank, and lots of interesting
mud. Two dog baths before lunch! Two miles of running later, and Jennifer
thinks she might have two tired dogs—she and Gary certainly are.
The rain gauge down on the fence claims one inch of rain,
but it certainly felt like more. Maybe the wind was part of the reason. Not going
to gripe. That rain was really needed. My flowers might just accidentally live
through another month. The yard does not look bad at all, but am thinking of
getting an estimate on lawn mowing from Patty’s lawn guy. The old woman may not
have a lot of extra money, but that is one service that might just be more than
worth it.
Reece picked up a piece of steel at work the other day and
somehow hurt his back. He made it home, but Grayson took him to the ER place.
So glad he was there to help. Anyhow, hoping Reece gets over it fairly soon.
Know how much that can hurt when a person pulls a muscle. Guess he can count on
worker’s comp for a couple of weeks anyway.
Grayson is going to work now at another place that requires
him to be in the office three days a week. It will probably be good for him to
be around other folks since none of us have been all that good about getting
involved with others since that stupid virus hit a couple of years ago. Think
he will be working in downtown Ft. Worth. That is where my daughter-in-law was
working at the Central Library, but that part of the library is moving out of
downtown. Figures, huh.
Talked to Sharon (Sister-by-another-Mother) for a few
minutes. She is having problems with her blood pressure going too high, but
they still plan on taking out the gall bladder on Tuesday if all goes well.
Still needs our prayers. Her nurses are wonderful and caring. She has been so
blessed by doctors and nurses that explain things to her and express their care
for her. Every patient should be so blessed.
Grandson Landon has his gall bladder out on Tuesday as
well. He has been busy this weekend so far drinking fluids and doing crochet.
That crochet kit is what he wanted for his graduation gift, so now he is making
a pretty shawl from some purple thread. How neat! Told him about the curtain
that his grandmother made from crochet thread back umpteen years ago that shrunk
when washed so that it was about the size of a placemat. Wool thread. No wonder
it itched!
Went out to check on the nine little ninnies—four naked
necks and five Easter Eggers. They are getting SO big. It seems running around
in the greenhouse just is their idea of fun and games. They are going to be
heavy bodied hens—or roosters since they were sold as straight-run chicks. Hope
they are all pullets, but who knows. At least it is not too difficult to find
homes for roosters.
Don’t know much of what is going on in the world—as usual.
Nothing appeals to my sense of curiosity since most things that have ever
happened can just happen again. Once in a while the science news becomes
astounding. The discoveries seem to multiply exponentially these days. More
discoveries and less humanity. How sad. But wouldn’t it be something if all the
plastic became roads and the rag weed became biofuel!
Let us remember our fellowman (woman), child, animals in
this life. We are all so close to each other whether or not we realize it. God
gave us the opportunity to love each other and all the critters, so let’s do a
good job of it. We don’t have to live in the same house to be able to be kind to
others, but we can at least be considerate.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
