Twisting Winds.
Last night the winds were ferocious. Stepping out onto the
deck, it sounded as if a whoosh of wind was actually twisting the plum tree,
the crepe myrtle, and the seven-sisters rose bush. This morning, not one bloom
remained on the rose bush. It still has some buds that have yet to open, but
not one full bloom. Patty said that she stepped out onto her side porch and saw
the same twirling effect upon her cedar tree in the dog yard. It frightened her
into remembering the last time we had a bad wind like that which removed two of
their large cedar trees, one cedar in our yard, and a paradise tree down near
Mr. Black’s house. That was one shocking wind!
Wind or no, the stupid raccoon came back to visit. It got
into the trash bin and knocked it over. Had to clean up the remains of the dead
hen for the second time since it was now shattered over the front walkway.
Danged critters! Not sure how to prevent the raccoon from getting in the trash
bin again. A cinder block is pretty heavy for an old woman to lift, but that
might work. [Put a stretchy cargo strap on it instead of a cinder block.]
Got my brother’s birthday present today. See large grin on
the old woman’s face! Asked him today how the knee was doing. He is still in a
lot of pain trying to keep it limbered up, but needs to do the at-home
exercises more. He gets busy doing what he wants to do and then suffers when he
goes to rehab. And now he and his friend George have set up a router for his
wood work. Told him to be extra careful with that thing. Remember it was not
the sort of thing that Lewis enjoyed because it was so dangerous. Don’t
remember to whom we gave that tool.
Kinda considered mowing some weeds this afternoon, but not
sure it will get done. Being lazy is habit forming. Just keeping up with these
two dogs, six grown hens, and twenty-five chicks can keep me semi-busy. Hoping
that the nine older chicks can be allowed to roam around in the green house
section next week. It is not cold, so they don’t need a heater. We will see
what next week brings. The forecast for tomorrow is a 60% chance of rain.
Had to laugh at the conversation that King Charles III had
with someone while he was in his carriage. He does not like waiting around and not
being “on time.” Think his little grandson Louis has the same temperament—“Boring!”
Oldest Dickerson grandchild graduated from North Texas
University. No stage walk, but still has the piece of paper that says the years
were worth it. Both of those children were able to get concurrent enrollment so
that their stay in classes was shortened somewhat. If Lance had been able to turn
all his advanced placement classes into concurrent enrollment, it would have
been so much less expensive to send him to college.
Cooked a couple of soup bones for the dogs. Thompson seemed
to really enjoy his. Sylvia turned up her nose for some reason. Oh well.
Whatever suits them is their problem and not mine.
Wish the flags were not having to fly at half-mast. Since
we know that rocks are just as deadly as any gun, we can’t be sure that trying
to restrict gun use will do any good. It would seem to be more difficult to
carry around large chunks of rock to the mall, however. We may all get to the
point that we want everything delivered so we are not put at such a
disadvantage by being in public places. As long as the world is full of hatred,
greed, bigotry, and just plain stupidity, none of us will really be “safe.”
Let us pray for God’s Kingdom to come. His rule will be as
the King of Justice and Mercy.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
