Street Work!
TXDOT is at its best. We have one lane going south on Kemp
from Sw. Pkwy to Fenoglio and beyond headed to Hwy 79. Oh boy! Have a call in
to someone at TXDOT asking if they can open up the entrance to our street by
moving some of the concrete over even ten inches to give us wider access to the
entrance. Otherwise, we have to make a 90-degree turn to the right to get up
the street! We will see if the person ever calls back. The young man from TXDOT
says it is a city street and THEY would have to take care of it. The city says
it is up to TXDOT. Years ago, the city said it was a “private” street. They are
not responsible! ARGH!!
The new denture is going to take some getting used to.
Sterling says he still bites himself all the time trying to get used to his new
one. Such fun. NOT! At least this one has some points above that touch the one
below!
Went down to Patty’s this morning and visited for a bit. She
had borrowed a few things to make it easier for her while her bathroom was
being remodeled. We sat there and watched Roxy until the dog finally decided
she was hot. She likes the kind of kibble that my dogs eat, so she gets a
handout every so often of about two cups for her to eat along with her other
food. Really think she has lost just a bit of weight since Ruddy died. She does
not beg for food the way Ruddy did. Her big thing is being afraid of noises—thunder
and any kind of loud noise. Last night she kept waking Patty up over the storm
we had. Maybe they both will sleep tonight.
Got up and out to the east lots and started digging up sticker
weeds—those long slender ones with multiple stickers on each stick. Filled up a
trash bag before it was finished. Will get up early tomorrow and try to get the
ones on the outside of the fence all dug up and thrown into a bag to dump in
the bin. Despise those stickers! Father-in-law planted Bermuda grass in his
field one year and had wall to wall stickers! Guess he did not know they were
in the sprouts that he got, but he ended up with stickers everywhere before it
was all over!
Have talked to a couple of places now about our street
problems. The trash truck has made a “buffalo wallow” out of the end of the
street on Patty’s land. We will see if the man from the city will call me back
today, but if not, he will get another call tomorrow. And the day after, etc. Nothing
like having to be an old battleax bother to pester until something is done
right. Sigh.
Now that Israel has just about leveled most of the land in
Gaza, it seems that Hamas might want to negotiate. Of course, Israel is still
having to deal with the tunnels that lead under the border into Egypt. Hamas might
be interested in releasing some hostages—or not. Seems to me that Israel needs
our prayers more every day.
Speaking of prayers, Carol Thonton has that vein surgery on
Friday. She goes in early that morning and has to stay a couple of days. Like
most of us, she rather take a whipping than stay in the hospital. Meanwhile,
the rest of us can pray for her and the healing that she needs.
May we have peace in this nation, and may common sense prevail
in spite of the ignorance that seems to abound.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
