Summer and Heat.
Dear Hearts, it has been hot today. It got up to 100 degrees
out on my front porch. Have not looked to see what the gauge on the back deck
says, but the hens are panting and staying in the shade. According to Weather
Bug, we have a 30 to 40% chance of rain this weekend again. We will see if that
materializes or not, however. A friend made the comment that a 30% chance of
rain meant that we really had a 70% chance of NOT having rain.
Jennifer came up today and went to see Dr. Vietenheimer about
getting this surgery done. He answered all the questions we knew to ask and
then had his PA to tell us more about what we would be doing. A total knee
replacement for some folks means going home the same day, but he wants me to
stay overnight for IV antibiotics. Anyway, barring any uh oh’s, we will have
the surgery on August 12. Jennifer will stay with me for two weeks. We are
hoping to get Grayson to take a week’s vacation and stay with me for a week if
nothing else happens. Maybe the old woman will be tough enough to take care of
herself pretty much after two weeks.
Sterling and Jacqui are a bit down in the dumps today
because they had to have the vet come out and put their old farm dog down. She
just wasn’t doing well at all and was pretty miserable. So, now they are spreading
the word that they are looking for another old dog who needs a good home. Their
little Toby dog sleeps with Sterling or keeps them busy one way or the other
most of the time, but he is about as big and ferocious as my oldest hen’s
backside. SMALL dog with big ideas, you know.
Have about got Sylvia to take off a pound now. She doesn’t
get very many treats and both dogs only get something on top of their kibble
once a day now. It’s simply too hot for dogs and people to be eating anything
extra.
Things are happening all over the world: Guatemala was rocked by over three dozen earthquakes with
magnitudes ranging from 3.0 to 5.6 on Tuesday. Tremors could reportedly be felt
all the way in the nation of El Salvador. Among the weather-related problems
have been the issues involving harvesting crops: Bad weather has destroyed over
60% of the wheat crop in Wichita County, Texas. Only 40% can be harvested, and
just a small amount is sufficient to sell for a profit, according to News Channel 6. Over 100 people have been injured while
thousands more have been told to shelter in place after a wildfire tore through
a portion of southern France. Today, China is experiencing severe flooding in
several regions, particularly in central and southern areas. At least nine
people have died, and tens of thousands have been displaced due to the
heavy rains. After horrible fires earlier this year, the town of Ruidoso confirmed in a statement late Tuesday that a man and
two children, ages 4 and 7, were swept downstream and “tragically lost their
lives as a result of the historic flash flooding that swept through the
community on July 8, 2025.” It added that search and rescue operations were
continuing. Satan has his hands in this mess. But we can know that these things
have been foretold. Now is a very good time to dust off that Bible if it is not
already open and being read daily. Whether or not a person can get down on our
knees, it is definitely a good time to ask God to guide and direct us daily.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
