Growing Grass.

 Growing Grass.

We got nearly two inches of rain here on Dickerson Hill last night, and now it has begun to rain again. The thunder is making the dogs nervous, so they are now wearing their thunder shirts. If the old woman goes to another room, they are right along with me. And the temperature has dropped a bit as well. Here’s hoping that it is warmer this weekend.

Noticed that it is international day of the woman or some such. When a person is a woman, one day is about like another for the most part. Cook, laundress, child carer, wife, mother, housekeeper, educator, judge, jury, and life coach. Having one day as more special compared to another is somewhat laughable. We get it all done—or not. The same can be said for the fathers in our midst. They have to do it all as well—their jobs and sometimes those of the women. If there ever were a “role” for a woman or a man, the slot where we claim that role to belong has been wallowed out by time and circumstance long ago. No circles in the square boxes or vice versa.

The hens were surprised by my early arrival to release them this morning. Something woke me up early. Thompson wanted outside, so after he came back in, going back to sleep was not going to happen. Oh well. Maybe as dark as it is right now, the hens will go inside their coop a little earlier. At least they won’t be out in the side lot doing the backstroke in that tall henbit and wild lettuce. The other day when Roxie went out to the side of Patty’s house, she became almost invisible in the tall grass. Yep. That stuff is growing to beat the band. May have to ask Patty’s mowers to mow mine if the twins can’t come over and mow for me. They both have jobs now, so it is not like they have lots of time on their hands. Ah, well. Knee-high grass and weeds might be good for something.

Made some soup today because it felt like a soup day. Patty said she felt that soup was just called for on rainy days. Agreed. Had some mushrooms that needed to be used, so that turned out pretty good. Could actually enjoy soup without any meat in it as long as some mushrooms were in there. Vegetable soup is the best right after Jennifer’s twice baked potato soup! That stuff is the very best!

Really out of touch with the world right now. And guess what. The old woman feels better for not knowing diddly squat today. Have been thinking of a topic to discuss with all of you, but have decided first to ask a question or two so you can think about it. Question: was Judas embarrassed by Jesus’ life style and his association with women? If he were embarrassed by the unconventional approach, how do you think he felt about Jesus’ appeal to the woman at the well? Was Judas selfish or self-centered?

If you feel like answering the question in private, just send me a message rather than comment on the blog.

Sitting here thinking that God has blessed us with rain and may see us through a year without letting drought hit us. Maybe our lakes will fill up and the stock tanks overflow! Praise God! We have so many reasons to appreciate what we are given. But let’s remember those who are snowed in out in California and other places. The snows will melt eventually, but they may cause flooding at the same time. Pray for God’s protection on all of them.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
