Bissell Replacement!
When was the last time you had a company stand by their
product? Dear Hearts, Bissell has promised to replace my battery powered
vacuum! Amazing! The vacuum part still works just fine, but the little head
down at the bottom of the vacuum no longer spins its beater bars. Think the dog
hair did it in! Cleaned the thing out and pulled out enough hair for another
dog! Guess that won’t happen again! Will check it often when the new one gets
here. But the neat thing about it being battery operated is that the top
portion can still be used like a hand vacuum. So, the top part can go out to
the truck without any electrical hookup being nearby and just vacuum up
whatever needs cleaning. So there! It made me happy to have the company really
try to help me figure out what to do with the thing. It was under warranty, but
still. Have never had a company just offer to replace the entire thing like
that. Would have been happy if they had just offered to replace the bottom
part. Buying the part separately was nearly $70!
Had a really great day yesterday with Lance and his family.
Had the house pretty clean, but it only took a few minutes before the feet and
the dog hair made everything quite home-like! Laughed at the kids and reminded
each other of things we had done or things that just turned out funny. Tracy
told about Landon’s friend Chris who used to work for McCormick in their spice
factory. Chris came over and stopped in the doorway instead of coming all the
way into the house. The next morning Tracy thought that someone had bled on the
door mat. It seems Chris was working on Cheetos blend spices the night before
and came in his work boots! They have to wear breathing apparatuses when they
work there, but he did not think about his feet. Just imagine! My floor gets
feathers and chicken poo occasionally, but at least we don’t have spicey Cheeto
dust!
It is such a wonderful thing to have grown or semi-grown
kids come to visit. The old woman put Barry Levy’s spiced veggies, green
olives, and pickled okra on the table and then just convenience plates for the
food. We had Chicken Express food and lots of laughs for lunch. When everyone
was finished, the silver ware and a few bowls went to the sink and got washed
by my granddaughter, the cloth napkins went to the washing machine, the paper
plates went to the trash, the leftover food went to the fridge, and the extra
chairs went to the office. This old woman was just amazed by the handy folks
who did everything! That is the way to have family get togethers.
The Feed and Garden Store sells these pecans from Santo, TX
that are called Texas Trash pecans. They are spicey, Dear Hearts! Got a package
for both families and almost forgot to hand them to one of the kids. Then my
daughter-in-law informed me that it is not recommended to have more than five Brazil
nuts in a day—two a day being preferable. Seems they contain selenium that
affects one’s thyroid. Figures. Used to love these things almost as much as pecans.
Oh well. Will have to share with my daughter when she comes along with her
package of Texas Trash. Made a cheese cake and forgot the sugar. The dogs
appreciated it. Sigh. Oh well. Landon’s pumpkin pie was lovely. He did not use
whatever strong spice that usually makes me about half sick, so it was good to
eat! Ginger, cinnamon, and something is all he used.
Tracy made butter rolls and brought some for me. No, they
are not on my diet, but they are SO tasty. But then, so was the chicken pot pie
that Lance made. His pie will last more than a few days!
Michelle Malay and Joe (her brother-in-law) came early this
morning and had breakfast with me—chicken pot pie for breakfast, more or less,
with coffee or hot tea. Good to see both of them! Know Michelle is a bit
worried about the knee surgery. Reminded Sterling about it when he called and
could almost see him taking a short breath and nodding his head. That is not
one of those easy things. She is hoping to get to go to rehab at Clay County
Memorial. Here’s hoping that Medicare will approve it.
It is supposed to freeze Thursday night. That means the old
woman will have to go out and take the hose off the back faucet and put the
faucet cover on. Did you know that chickens will eat the faucet covers off if
they have that Styrofoam in them? Last year they ate the entire insides of the
cover before it was noticed! Crazy birds!
Found a few blank cards and the envelopes to go with them in
my desk drawer in the living room. Actually, took time to send a thank you note
to the parents of Rachel’s boyfriend for some cookies they sent. Now need to write
another note and send it tomorrow to number one and family. These children are
so very precious to me. Can hardly believe the blessings that they are to me
and to others. Believe that God provides blessings for generations to the
thousandth generation. At least, that is what it seems like. Like Sterling
said, we had some of the best grandparents a person could ask for. Granddad
Pollard was the kind of grandparent that could teach us all how to love. He was
a gift from God. If any kindness that might come from me to others could be as
good as his was to us, may that kindness go on to the children of our children
and beyond. May my life and Lewis’ life be a blessing because of God’s love.
Some day we will continue to share the “Harbor Freight” sheets story with more
children. Lewis loved his daughter-in-law. He sent her a Harbor Freight catalog
and told her to pick out her birthday present! We had to buy twin-sized sheets
for his hospital bed when he was dying here at home. Tracy told Lewis that the
ballerina sheets were purchased at Harbor Freight! And we still smile at that
story. Because he was loved.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
