Preparations for Winter.
Tomorrow calls for the little steps that make it easier to
be sure that nothing freezes in the yard—hoses and faucets put away or covered.
It is supposed to get down low this next week. Cold always hurts, but can honestly
say that the summer heat was pretty doggone intense this year already, so
winter has to show off its ruffles! Hoping my girls don’t suffer for the
weather. Some have not quite re-feathered their little bodies after moulting.
And the old woman needs to figure out a way to make the roof not leak in both
houses. Sometimes it just feels as if a brand-new building is needed for them! Have
seen some small buildings that would be about right, but it still takes some finagling
to set up roosts and nests in a new building. At least one would hope a new
building would not leak. However, Shona thought the same thing about their new home,
as did Max and Laisha! Leaky doors and windows for Shona and leaking roof for
Max and Laisha!! Horrors!
Didn’t sleep well last night, so today there was about as much energy as a worn-out shoe. Kinda useless. At least Blake came and made the yard look better by getting it mown. That always makes me feel better when the lower forty has been cut back.
Had some business with Texoma Credit Union and got that finished
in about an hour. Really like that bank. The young woman explained things in a
way the old woman could understand, too! Synthia is a sweet one! In a way, would
like to have all my banking business over there, but it would take an effort to
change everything over. Bills paid through the bank depend on the credit cards
with Chase. Oh well.
Had sauced broccoli for din-upper. Kinda irritating that they cram in the stalks in little pieces that are stringy and tough. And the stalks being in there does not make it cheaper—just harder to chew! One of these days, will find a decent brand of veggie for such things that does not include the toughest part of the plant!
Gripey this evening. The wind is blowing and the knee is
complaining. Did notice this morning that the “loop” Dr. B put in the incision
had come out. At least it is not itching now.
Got a package from my friend Robin Christian today—hot pepper jelly! She makes the very best jellies and jams, but this pepper jelly is enough that a person wants to be selfish with it! Can’t believe she paid that much to send a jar of jelly! And then she returned my call, and her phone showed up as Killeen, TX. She has the same phone she had when she lived here in Texas. We exchanged stories about learning how to use a phone. Getting old can certainly get interesting. She now lives in California with one of her sons. She had to downsize considerably. Simply can’t imagine having to decide between the things that matter to me. Guess it comes down to having a bed and a chair and a few books that matter—especially if a Kindle app will keep a person happy. At least she got to have a dog around.
Watching children grow up is one of the perks of getting older,
but it also reminds me that it is our responsibility to pray for our children
and those of our friends and family. Let us pray that God brings this generation
to Him. Let them learn to love and be the kind of men and women who will praise
His name and show His love to others.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
