A Beautiful Day!
It is 71 degrees out there, and a very tiny breeze moving
so that the propeller on my plane is as still as the leaves on the trees. Only
the birds are moving enough to cause any kind of air movement. And THIS is
Texas! Amazing! The sun is shining and the hens are pecking at whatever it is
that they find to eat. They seem pretty happy in my estimation.
Patty said our neighborhood raccoon set off her camera a
couple of times last night. It managed to get one piece of the bait intended
for it, but maybe the secondary latch held the door open on the trap. Will try
again tonight. Never have used a trap like this before, so probably did not do
something right. Still not sure what will happen if it is trapped. Hmm. Haul it
out to Highway 79 almost to Archer City maybe? Have to be able to trap it
first. Sitting here laughing at myself.
Sterling called and said that his friend George has come
down with Covid. The doctor thinks that Sterling is probably immune. Here’s
hoping! He won’t take a flu shot, and that stuff is enough to put a person down
for the count!
Walked the place the other day and looked for khaki plants.
Found some that have already made seeds! Argh! Will get out tomorrow if the old
bones are still pliable enough and see if most of the plants can be removed.
Nothing like weeds and stickers to make life miserable. Probably need to put
down some kind of weed killer, but hate to mess with the soil or the earthworms’
homes. Don’t care about a beautiful lawn or anything of that nature, but prefer
to not have knee-high weeds. Right now, the hens have been making “Marine”
holes. That is like foxholes that the military would consider as good places to
duck down. The hens get out there and dig up a hole, dust off in the dirt,
trade holes with another hen, and then the dogs take over and see if they can
strike oil or something. Nothing like it. Walking in my yard is an experience—a
risky business.
Found out today that Pinnacle (the internet service used in
this house) has been charging me a bit over $10 a month for the “use” of their
router. Looked up some router prices online and found that they are pretty
expensive, but the company will continue to charge me for this router until it
is returned to them. It would be cheaper in the long run to buy one on Amazon.
As soon as my son-in-law is available to tell me what to get, we will be doing
something different. Argh!
Read today that all of us old fuddy duddies will be getting
that “stimulus” check sometime this next year. How nice. We paid in all this
money over the years whether or not we wanted to and had to pay tax on it as
well. Now they have decided we could probably use a little bit of it back.
Marvelous, just marvelous. [Can you hear that tone of voice?]
The dogs were startled—well, the old woman, too—the other
morning when something THUNKED against the front window. A young female
cardinal was lying there on the front walkway, pretty stunned. Brought her in
and held her until she was warmed up and breathing easy. She messed up the
front of my tee-shirt, but oh well. Took her back outside and set her on the
arm of the bench. Touched her little head and spoke to her about flying. A
little reddish blur took off toward the side lot! She was good to go. Sometimes
a little comfort is all any of us need.
Have to haul the trash bin across the road here in a
minute. Trash truck comes early on Tuesday and Friday mornings. The driver’s
name is Duane, and he is very nice. He always waves. The world has certainly
changed from the days when we used to burn our trash in a barrel in the back
yard. Can’t imagine that kind of burning in a city this large now. Whew! What a
mess.
Erin and Lesli have been trying to work on all the things
that have to be done to settle things as quickly as possible after Anne finally
leaves this world. It has been so very sad to watch this situation. Let’s just
say that if anyone had a choice, this is not the way to go.
Have an appointment to see an eye doctor by the name of
Kelly on Thursday. Dr. White has taken care of us for years, but she retired
this year. Pretty sure this man will do whatever needs to be done, but that
business of dilating one’s eyes is never fun. It always feels as if the world
has gone blurry. As long as the old woman can get back home without running
over anyone, we will be just fine.
Every time the internet flips another page, something about
aliens comes up. Dear Hearts, we are all aliens. Look at what is in the dirt
around us. Microbes, mold, active dust particles. We are just bigger particles
of the same. The only difference is the breath of God that He gave us. A spirit
that is in man. NOT that man is spirit, but you can see that man has a spirit.
God connects to us just as electricity connects across the sky—spirit to
spirit. Let’s hold on to that connection!
Pray for peace. You are loved.
