Warmth.

 Warmth.

Discovered that this “shawl” Lance and family gave me has a snap on the front to help it stay in place. Nice, and nice and warm! The house is almost 30 degrees warmer inside than it is currently outside, but then, the wind is not blowing a gale. That makes a big difference.

Thompson decided that he needed to get up and bark about something outside which was the predecessor to going outside to take care of whatever business he had, so here it is after 1 a.m. and the old woman is up. Of course, someone ate a big piece of coconut pie (thank you very much, United Supermarkets) and therefore that someone has indigestion. Yep, those carbs can mess a person up rather quickly. Even sweet potatoes don’t cause that much of a problem. Won’t even think about the ingredients in that pie.

Here it is 9:37 a.m. and have already made an appointment to see Dr. Blackwell on Thursday afternoon, have two dogs fed and lying down on their happy places while covered with snuggly blankets, and have the curtains pulled back to watch the rain dribble down. It is still 40 degrees outside, so not bad enough to gripe about. The house is a toasty 70 degrees here in the living room. Saw one of those targeted posts on FB about bringing in your pets during this cold weather. The picture showed a lady sitting in her big chair reading a book while her horse lay on the couch! Thought maybe Brenda Jones would get a kick out of that one. Of course, she has more than one horse and the sheep probably would not need a couch, but still, it is a funny idea.

Read a blog post by Julie Chambers who grew up with my children. Sounds as if she is quite ill, but she was never specific about what was going on. Think some prayers are definitely needed. She lost her husband some years back to brain cancer. She has struggled to make a living and take care of her two children and her home ever since. It is hard to make it on one income, and the military is not just real helpful after the fact even if it were possible to show that the illness was caused by exposure to chemicals in Iraq or wherever it was he served. Let’s just say a prayer for Julie that God will give her the comfort of His presence in her life.

It hasn’t become any colder throughout the day even during the cold rain that came down, but it FEELS wet and cold all over the place. Went out to check on the feed situation and found that the doves had not eaten all the little pieces of hen mash. Threw out some scratch and watched the hens act as if they had been starved for days! Silly hens. One of the feed bins must have a leak and has some scratch caked up in it. Eventually will have to empty it and put a different bin in the front coop where no rain can get to it. Had a tarp over it, but guess it was a dollar late and an hour short or whatever. [Yes, know that saying is reversed.]

Have some beef bits to put in the slow cooker for tomorrow’s beef stew. Think it is going to contain some rice, carrots, and whatever else comes to mind. As much as cold weather hurts my body, the food during cold weather starts out being good. It just gets old eating soups and that sort of thing before long. So different from summer food, the weather makes food palatable long before it freezes.

These two dogs believe that the treat jar needs to be very handy today. This is the second time they have been demanding treats! Usually, it is just Sylvia demanding treats, but other than wanting his backside brushed, this time Thompson wanted treats as well.

Sharon Dickerson made the nicest little cloth bowl thing that is just perfect for holding my soup bowl. It can set on the desk and not be in the way and still hold in the heat. Thanks, dear sister!

Cleaning up the fence line the other day included picking up some heavy paper which included a map of the new construction across on the State Hospital grounds. It shows the sewer lines and other things, but did not see the tunnels shown on the map like the ones Donny used to have. Eventually they will need to find someone to map those areas out again unless they don’t care if a few “patients” decide to leave by the tunnels. Can’t imagine anyone going down there with all the snakes and other vermin, but at least they are not sewer lines.

Don’t know anything different today. No text messages from Henrietta. Shaking head here. Just have to pray for Erin and Lesli.

Pray for peace in this world. It gets more tense in every area of our country with shootings that do not make any sense whatsoever. Let us ask for protection for our families and for those who have to go out among the kind of folks who drive by and shoot at others just as the mood suits them. Crazy!

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
