Days That Run Together.
Really have to think about what day it is at times. Lance
drove me over to Market Street and lifted the heavy stuff. Still, it reminded
me of taking the kids to the grocery store when they were little. My basket ended
up with a few strange items like Mediterranean Bean Bowl with garbanzo beans in
it. And then there is the Lotus Biscoff Crunchy Cookie Butter. Yes, it is
pretty good. Then he tried the cheese that his mom thinks is great, but he
kinda turned up his lip at the Stilton cheese with apricots. Oh well. Whatever
it takes. But then we tried to remember what day of the week it is: he has been
on vacation this week and just returned from Corpus Christi. Think he was
really glad to get home, but then he went to the nursing home to see his Auntie
Anne before he came here. He visited with Lesli and Erin, so that was worth the
trip. They have not seen each other for several years.
Dr. Parkey took the staples out of Anne’s hip and leg where
they did the surgery to put it back together. It won’t heal, of course, but at
least maybe it won’t be as uncomfortable. The doctor and nurses keep thinking
she can’t possibly live more than a couple of days longer, but she inherited
some very stubborn genes. When she was lucid the other day—whichever day that
was—she wanted to see and talk to her entire family. We all went over for her
and stayed until late. Anyway, maybe it is just a good thing that her two kids
were with her this week. Lesli has to return to Illinois soon, and my kids are
in two different places this next week. At least Erin can stay with her since
he took a leave of absence.
It feels as if the weather is about to change. Joints are
stiff and hurting a bit more than usual. Best barometer around, ya know!
Put a pork butt on to cook a bit ago. That will keep me and
the dogs fed this next week. Have some fresh veggies, but was griping about the
price of ONE tomato. Yes, it was a large tomato, but they are so very expensive
and do not really taste like anything we ever grew on the farm. Need to go down
to the farmers’ market and get some real tomatoes.
Jennifer spent the night one day this week—night before
last maybe. Honestly! Anyway, she went over and visited with Erin before she
came home one day. Then he came over the next morning, and we all went to Jimmy’s
Egg for breakfast. Kinda like that place. Enjoyed being with Jennifer and
visiting with Erin, too.
Got a sweet card from Sharon Dickerson with a pair of angel
wings in it. The crocheted wings were so precious. Need to send her a message
that they arrived and that they were appreciated. Some of the Dickerson family
are pretty good to stay in touch with each other even in this day and age. And
Sharon and Sue are two of the best to stay in touch. Can remember back years
ago that my children thought it was the greatest thing to get a card from their
great-grandmother Pollard. She always had some sweet saying for them for
whatever the occasion was. She got to watch Lance graduate from high school and
then wrote about it in the Clay County Leader (“THE” newspaper). Lance had a
high fever and still walked the stage that day! He took all those advanced
courses that they now give credit for college, but back then it was just noted
that the kids had taken advanced courses. Oh well. He was a good student.
Think my grands like the things they get whenever the old
woman gets on a tear and starts sending things. Found out today that the candy
sent to daughter-in-law was definitely not worth sending. Oh well. She will
like the flowers that are coming this month.
Got a couple of eggs today—none yesterday. Lance put the
alfalfa in the coop for me and dumped the chicken feed in a can. SO happy to have
the heavy things like that finished. Getting too lazy to scoop up portions
before trying to empty the sacks.
Walked the east lots this morning and looked for the khaki
grass sprouts. Will have to get out the pokey tool and get them removed before
they get any bigger. Hoping to keep them out of the yard this year. Despise
those stickers!
A text on my phone reminded me—at SIX a.m.—that the old
woman had to be at the hospital by 8 o’clock—"come fifteen minutes early for
the paper work!” Was home by 8:30, so that was a no-brainer. Now Dr. Blackwell
can’t say that anything else needs to be done this year. The bones may not be
dense (except for my head), but the other parts have always been dense. Big
whoop! Developed muscles across my body from the time we began to climb trees.
Mom used to say that her children were part ape! Pretty close!
The load of clothes in the dryer is finished, so will have
to get my backside off of this office chair and get ‘er done! Just will finish
letting all of you know: Jacob got to go back home from the hospital in Little
Rock. Don’t think they ever decided what happened. Madison Hodges lost the
kidney and has to heal up and continue going to Dallas three days a week for
dialysis until she is healed and can do it here. Madison Pollard and her husband
are back at home from the hospital. Guess they are doing pretty well under the
circumstances. Their vet cremated their three dogs for them. Kind person!
Prayers for Anne’s children and grands are still needed. Anne knows she is
going away, but she does not like “sad words.” Trying to think of happier
thoughts for all of us.
Pray for peace. We all need it. Meanwhile, you know, you
are loved.
