Hidden Things.
After finding a nest of eggs yesterday due to a rat snake,
it seemed pretty strange today to find another nest under the back steps
leading outside from the back of the house on the southwest side. Apparently,
some hens have decided to choose their own nesting place. Fifteen eggs had to
be boiled and fed to the hens and dogs. Argh! At least that way they don’t go
to waste.
Then Maggie Sewell and her husband came to pick up eggs. She
had a short story for me about her hash brown potatoes. Seems she has this
recipe she had planned to make for a church social. They put off the social, so
she decided to make the casserole anyway. She followed the recipe exactly, but
she and David were not impressed. She finally discovered the reason in very
small print on the package of frozen “potatoes.” She was using frozen
mozzarella!! Think she was glad she did not take it to a church social. Nothing
like finding the ingredients in small print!
Have been reading in Isaiah and wishing for a commentary. It
is not difficult to understand why we find some things hard to understand: Isa.
55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,
saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways
higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Sometimes it bothers me that we have no true vision of what
is going on or will happen in the future, yet God tells us that our parents,
mates, or others will rest without knowing these things: 57: 1-2 The righteous
perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none
considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. 2 He shall
enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his
uprightness.
My parents saw the Dust Bowl, the Depression, World Wars I
and II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam Conflict, various racial and ethnic purges
both political and philosophical, famines, droughts, and other “natural”
disasters, yet nothing has truly changed as we see our world finances based on a
make-believe currency, our soil and seas poisoned, nature and mankind corrupted
by our own hands, and every evil imaginable condoned and catalogued daily. Why
would we want to know these things? The only thing we can actually look forward
to is knowing that the God who created all things is a loving God who intends
only good for those who love Him. All these things may come to pass, but they
will be as nothing when it is all said and done. Only God will stand. His
Kingdom will come.
May you have peace knowing that God loves you.
