Good Friends Make Good Suggestions!
Spent a couple of hours at P.E.T.S. Clinic this morning so
my dogs could get prescription Bravecto for fleas and ticks. Got home and gave
them the pills to chew up—success! Anyway, certainly appreciate my friend Judie
Brunson for this suggestion because the dogs SAW a vet for an exam, got weighed,
and got to go home shortly after seeing the vet. It cost exactly $120 for everything!!
In case you think that the ol’ woman is making a big deal out of the cost of
meds and office visits, let me just say that a rabies shot with a wellness
visit at Colonial for Sylvia cost $73. Someone told me that we could get rabies
shots at the city pound for $10 plus the city tag cost. But the lady at
P.E.T.S. suggested that we check with them again since Texas now has a new law
that the dogs have to see a vet before getting the vaccine! Go figure. Guess
when Thompson’s rabies vaccine comes due again, it will be a trip to P.E.T.S.
for us.
Trips like the one this morning pretty well wipe me out. Came
home and called Patty to tell her about the vet and the costs and then started
a pot of stew. Just have had about enough sandwiches for one week. The vet
suggested some oatmeal soap for Thompson’s rash, but just have no desire to got
to TSC or anywhere right this red-hot minute. Put some hotspot ointment on his
butt and now he is lying down under my desk while Sylvia is lying behind and to
the side of my office chair. The ol’ woman is not going anywhere without their
attention. But it was funny that the lady at the office thought that my dogs
were so well behaved. Had to tell her that the “sit” command was a lost cause
in that atmosphere. She said that her dog only sits for treats! Can guess why!
Sylvia may not sit, but she wants ON me whenever she is frightened. She was
glued to my leg while the vet examined her.
Well, the stew is not bad at all even if the carrots might
have been chopped instead of thrown in there whole—they are the little
bite-sized carrots used for dipping anyway. Not really in the mood for carrots
and dip, so there!
Called Western Hills vet’s office to be sure that Thompson
was up to date on his rabies shot, and they said he is due for the next one in
2026. Going through the file folder and found the papers for our Chow, Baloo.
It seems we used to use Dry Forks (now closed) in Henrietta and Simmons and
Harland on Valley View Rd. as well as Colonial and P.E.T.S. Good grief! These
dogs have seen just about every vet in the city! Oh well. May try to keep up
with the P.E.T.S. paper work as it would be cheaper by a long shot.
We had a heavy, misty fog that felt a bit like walking
through a sponge this morning. Looks as if this is the last chance for a storm
until Wednesday of next week. The heat is definitely on its way! No, summer is
not my favorite season because the heat just about does me in. But winter—at least
without a greenhouse—is just about as dreary as it comes. Love green and growing
things—and birds singing everywhere! Will have to manage to put out a water
bowl just for the birds with one of those solar fountains so that it might not boil
them alive! The dogs know to put a foot in the bowl first to check for the
heat! Smart!
Have a book to read with AJ if he comes over today, but his
little cousin might not like to sit still to listen. We will see. Until the
heat gets ferocious, we can go sit out on the deck and let the hens eat out of
their hands. Every child should know where breakfast comes from! Can’t imagine
the child that thinks milk comes from a store! Living close to nature is not
possible for everyone, but when it is possible, children need to learn how to
grow things and how to care for animals. God graces our families with good
health and curiosity in our children. Praise His name!
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
