Working with AJ.
My young neighbor is a delight! AJ has a single-minded focus
when he wants to do something. When we decided to move the bricks from around
the trumpet vine to around the herb garden, he asked how it should be done and
then went at it with a determination that reminded me of myself as a kid. Daddy
just had to show me once and then step back to see it finished. AJ is like
that. He will someday be a very good employee for someone. Anyway, if he can
work this afternoon, he will have a job cut out for him. The old woman got most
of the poppies and some weird weeds pulled from the front flower bed. Still,
the irises that need to be moved will have to be shoveled out. That is not a
job for old muscles. His youth might not be trained to perfection, but at least
he has grit! Looking forward to having new and pretty flowers planted out
there!
Looking online at the price of potting soil, it may be easiest
if Jennifer takes the old woman to Lowes for soil. If things go as planned, we
will have some big boxes to fill for new beds. It seems as if the flattened
cardboard is the way to go for what needs to go in the bottom of a new bed. Had
never really considered container gardening, but now it offers easier access to
dirt and fewer problems with weeds! The poppy plants pulled up this morning may
also end up in the bottom of the boxes to rot into something useful. Here’s
hoping.
Went down to Patty’s this morning and took her a couple of
doughnuts for her birthday. She is 67 years old today. Didn’t take my kazoo to
do the birthday song, but she was happy enough about the doughnuts. Think it is
the idea more than anything. And Roxie was happy, too. Took her some senior
little dog bites. Had bought this stuff for my critters, but discovered it had
chicken meal in it and was not happy about that. Meal means all the parts—as in,
parts is parts! NOT in my estimation. But this was supposed to be the kind
where it was clean meat instead of beaks and feet! Just hoping that the dry dog
food gets a good reaction to her tummy.
Could not sleep last night for aching and rolling around, so
have been up since four a.m. It would be nice if that meant that sleep would
come easier tonight, but that is about as likely as one of my dogs offering to
take a bath. Not likely—at least not in this cool temperature. Weird weather.
Need the AC one day and a blanket the next.
Have a series of books started. Had read the first one once
before, but it was good both times, so that is great. Now the rest of the
series should be just as interesting. Love getting book series for Kindle. No
dusting needed and no cost either! Read one series by Tricia O’Malley, but the
first series was good while the second series felt as if she was just spewing
words to make a count. Same plot and same focus without any redeeming social
messages! Bleah. Oh well. Not everyone can be a Steve Higgs.
Still have not found my “extra” keys. Stuff like that just
bugs me to distraction! Fixed up another key ring to put on the keyboard for
quick trips out of the house and maybe down to Patty’s or wherever, but would
really like for my keys to turn up. Silly ol’ woman who misplaces things! Sigh.
You all know how very blessed we are. We have our Bibles,
can read, can pray or worship or both, we know how the ends will be before they
happen, yet we worry about ourselves, our children, our nation and others as if
God were not handling things. He knows what He is doing even if we don’t truly
understand the time frame or the character of changes around us. We just have
to remember to let Him know that we trust Him.
Meanwhile, let us remember those like Raye Louise and her eyes,
Nate and his many physical limitations, Jacob and his ongoing responses to the
drugs he must take, Zeke and his recovery from the horrible seizures that he
endured: Let us pray for complete recovery for these young ones. And yes, Danny
Pollard is no longer a kid, but let’s pray that God will heal his kidneys and
remove the blood cancer so that he can continue to be a father to his children.
Thank you for considering those who we know to need God’s healing.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
