You Are My Sunshine!
Roger Thonton came yesterday and brought egg cartons and
something that made me smile and laugh. He said that he had had to loan his
kazoo to me more than once! So, he found a kazoo and brought it to me. Seems
his wife Susan likes to find neat little gifts to include in Christmas
packages, so he saw that and thought of how it was when we were kids! STILL
grinning!
Was planning on some serious spraying out by the back fence,
but the wind is blowing pretty fiercely, and that won’t happen. Checked to see
how much spray was left and found it probably would not have been enough
anyway. Really trying to avoid going to TSC for such as that. They have chicks,
ya know. Anyway, the other thing planned for today was moving a small ton of
bricks to place around the herb bed next to the house. The wooden thing is just
falling apart! It seemed like a neat idea when we put it together, but it
simply does not have structural integrity. Maybe putting bricks around it will
change some of that. The bricks have to be moved anyway since the irises in the
bed where the bricks are will be moved this weekend if nothing happens. Those
are going to Grayson’s new yard. Jennifer said that she can dig them up without
too much trouble. Have tried digging with a shovel lately and won’t be doing
that again anytime soon! Ouch!
It feels like a good day to rest. It’s not like the floors
are going to clean themselves, and the dogs won’t take a bath without the old
woman sitting over the tub and scrubbing them. But still. Not sure either will
get done, but it is a distinct possibility. These dogs are so freaking dirty!
They roll in dirt just to make themselves smell good!
Sitting here using slices of fresh turnip to dip into a
spinach-artichoke dip. Just put some potatoes on to cook to make potato salad.
Weird how things are just what my tastebuds want today! Just hope a jar of dill
pickles show up. Guess the tartar sauce would work in case of the dearth of
dills!
The postal department is collecting non-perishable foods
again this Saturday for the food bank. Nearly always find two of something in
the pantry. Buy salad dressing and already had a jar, or sometimes buy
something on sale that is already pretty well stocked. Grandma Dickerson always
had me pick up a can or two of green beans for her on my trips to the grocer.
When she left here, there were something like fifteen cans of green beans out
in her cabinet! Have not yet got quite that forgetful, but sometimes end up
with two or three of something. Oh well. It’s the weird stuff like sliced
pimentos and Popeye’s spinach that need to be put on a list for the old woman’s
memory!
Jennifer just let me know that Reece is in recovery from his
surgery. His doctor is staying with him so that he does not semi-wake up and
whap someone. Lewis was like that, too. He would not really be aware but know
someone was holding him down and come out fighting like a circle saw!
The highways near H&O are under massive construction, so
the kids have to use back ways to get to work. They even have to park out in
the boonies. The people who own the land behind the shop have horses out in a
field where they have been able to get out a few times. Lance sent pictures of
petting the horses. He knows his old mom would love to do that right now. Would
love a snoot full of horse! Some things in nature are just so very good for the
inside of mankind. God just made them that way for us. How wonderful He is!
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
