Nutella.
Pronounced: new tell ah. Have just had my first taste of
this stuff. Not bad, not bad at all. It seems that the load of groceries sent
to my neighbor Patty included a bunch of stuff that she did not order—including
the Nutella. It reminds me just a bit of hazelnut coffee except it is very thick.
Patty also sent a box of goldfish and some dark chocolate home with me. Not bad
for two old women who farmed out the remains of someone’s grocery order. She
said that she has called the store before when she got things like this that
were not a part of her order, but they won’t take them back. Oh well.
Thompson managed to get out again today while the old woman
was down at Patty’s. It always scares her so much because she is just sure that
Thompson might hurt Roxy. That might happen with Sylvia, but not with Thompson.
Anyway, had to go work the fence over again. Put down two of those metal rods
that are nearly as tall as the fence to plug up his hole. Got a message from
Jennifer saying that they have about half of their fence worked over again to
keep their critters inside the yard. Dogs are something else again when they
find a way to get out once! Granddad Pollard had an old ewe who was the most
determined creature on earth when it came to fences. If she could get her nose
in a hole, it did not take her any time at all to make it big enough for her to
go right through it. Granddad finally made a yoke that she had to wear all the
time to keep her in the fences. He still had her and one other ewe when they
got ready to sell the farm. Granny (the fence climber) and Pet went to live in
the yard of the telephone company in Byers. They had a chain link fence, so they
probably were right there until the day they died.
It has been a pretty decent day with the temperatures not
exceeding the hundred mark and a nice breeze to make things feel as if fall might
eventually get here. Keep promising myself not to gripe about the temperatures
this winter—well, as long as the water does not freeze in the pipes! With one
gas heater and two dogs, we should be just fine.
Haven’t looked at any news today and don’t have plans to do
so. Sometimes it is just pretty good to ignore all the shtuff going on around
us. We can never be totally sure that where we are is a “safe” place to be.
About the only truly safe place for anyone is going to be in the hands of God.
We can pray for our family, friends, neighbors, and our nation, but what God
allows will be there no matter what. We just have to trust that He will pick us
up if we fall. Let your prayers be a song in His ears.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
