What Are the Things You Like to Do?
Had reason to ask a young woman today about the type of
things she liked to do. She needed to think for a minute or two, but she
finally started talking about some of the things she enjoyed: dancing and
reading were two things, but she did not sound the least bit enthused about
anything. Have never seen someone whose outlook was so totally bland and
featureless. When she walked up to the porch, it was obvious that something was
truly wrong, but of course, the old woman had to ask and have her sit down and
talk to me. Don’t know if anything we said or even prayed about helped her, but
it strikes me that this entire world has so much on its shoulders these days.
She didn’t know where her Bible was, so she took one from my bookcase. The
print in mine has to be giant sized these days, so that book won’t go amiss.
And maybe it will help her if she reads it just a bit.
It strikes me that this world is hungry. Oh, we need food
for starving and growing kids and such as that, but we also need spiritual food
desperately. Not everyone is going to sit down with one of us old folks and
pray, but perhaps just an encouraging word given to someone whose face does not
show even a shadow of hope might help the entire person, family, city, and so
forth. This particular person said she grew up in poverty. Some of us barely
have enough money to keep fuel in the car, but we are so very rich in other
ways. We know that we are loved and that He promises to bless us until our cups
runs over. May we each be an encourager for those who need this kind of food.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
