Almost Evening.

 Almost Evening.

Can’t really say that anything has been accomplished around here today. Waited for the plumber, but he is now coming on Monday—sometime. Oh well.

Went to bed last night and forgot to close the front coop door. Not sure just what the old woman had on her mind, but she can be thankful that no skunks, possums, or raccoons got in the yard last night. Deep sigh.

Thompson got me up at 5 a.m. and wanted in the living room for some strange reason. Then, just as sleep came creeping back into my bedroom, so did Thompson—right up on the bed. Oh well.

Planned to call number one grandson tonight if nothing keeps me from remembering. He has been on a diet—like he is supposed to eat something other than pizza. Teased him the other day by asking if he had had his broccoli today! Why kids do not like veggies is beyond me. The only one we couldn’t stand was English peas. Mom could get us to eat anything by telling us we HAD to eat it. But Sterling didn’t like them either. Go figure. Don’t think we EVER had broccoli when we were kids. Probably too expensive. Veggies today come in all sorts of forms. Even in the fresh produce aisle, we can buy carrots grated, chopped, right out of the ground like they grew, or in little pieces for dipping. Same with mushrooms, celery, or peppers—different kinds in different sizes.

God gave us some mighty good food from the earth. Father-in-law used to say that no king could eat anything better than what he (fil) could grow in his garden! That is certainly true of some veggies—turnips, cabbage, onions, carrots, and such. The turnips planted out in the front in the big planter just didn’t make it this year. Guess the turnips from the store will just have to do.

Well, the hens are closed up and ready for the night. The old woman is about ready for bed, too. Have plans for tomorrow including putting the water hose back on the back faucet now that we are not under a freeze warning. We may return to freezing one day soon, but for now the hose would certainly be handy. Just wish the freeze we had would have killed more bugs. Sigh.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Greek Translation of Word "Worlds."

 Greek Translation of Word “Worlds.”

Once in a while, a word or expression in the Bible will make me pause to think about it. I 1 Tim.1:17 it says that Christ is the King of all worlds. Have you ever wondered if God only made mankind? In Hebrews1:2 it says that Christ made the worlds. And in Heb. 11:2 the worlds were formed by the Word. You know that when we were children, we read science fiction and had all these strange thoughts about what else was out there. Now, what could make the “falling away” in 2 Thes 2:3—and show the vision of Satan? Two possibilities in my silly mind: Satan plans to deceive all those called by God. The other: we let ourselves believe lies about who created all things—whether or not other “worlds” were included. Just a curious thought. How could we not believe that The WORD created all things? Heb. 11:3 The worlds were framed by the Word of God. We keep seeing pieces of planets that have crashed into this world as if life could have come from these other planets—and maybe it could have. However, if HE created ALL worlds, then these worlds were made to do as He wanted them to do.

It has been a tiring day. Maybe sleep will make me feel better.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Almost the End of January.

 Almost the End of January.

Had some stuff to vacuum earlier and thought it would be good to just start in the kitchen and work back. So much for what thought did! The old body is too tired to play today. So, the living room got a dust mopping and the little bathroom saw the vacuum for a brief go, but otherwise, the old woman has sat and read.

The day is a bit grayish. No bright shiny skies out there today! We may even get some rain this week. We really need it for the lakes and fields. A prayer for rain in the manner it is needed would be nice. Kinda feel for those in CA if they get rain and wash away even the boundary markers! Hoping my friend Henrietta has some idea of where to go next. Her family is not very young except for the youngest son. Anyway, may God provide for all those left homeless.

The plumber is not coming until Thursday, but at least he will get here eventually. And the water is on even if the lavatory drain needs to be replaced. Life is so interesting at times.

Saw a video of the step-sons of Lowry Mayo. The boys were playing on an electric scooter that Lowry won. I wanted to reach out and tell those boys to wear helmets, but that is not the way these things work. Hopefully, they won’t get dumped or bumped.

Talked to Sterling today and he said that it looks as if the farm above his has sold and these folks seem to be the kind that will make good neighbors. SO happy for that to be the way things have turned out. Sterling’s oldest son, Danny, is still in a really fragile state. They are trying to keep the leukemia at bay while he is on a list for a kidney transplant. He can’t even lift anything because it could make a bone break. Between praying for him (my nephew) and Tami Yonts, it makes me feel like crying each time my head is bowed in prayer. Life is so very hard. Yes, we know that death opens the door to life with God, but the life we know and love is right here with the ones we love now. It hurts to lose a husband, a son, a friend, but God knows what He has put in us—His spirit. We need to hang on to that faith that love keeps going long after we take our last breath.

Think Sue Dickerson is going to have to get a card pretty soon. Have not seen her on FB and think of her often. Sent a card to my friend Billye Ruth, but can’t expect her family to talk to her about chickens. That is how BR and I kept our relationship going. Talking fowl language to each other! Giggling.

Let us hope that our world has better news and more happiness in our future. It hurts to see Israel condemned by those who have no sense of what God has planned for that nation. The return of bodies is only right, but what a horror to think that others will have to wait and may not even be returned. God be with them.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Honor All Men.

 Honor All Men.

Reading in I Peter 2:15, 17 we are reminded: For so is the will of God, that with well-doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. 17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

Yesterday something a minister posted on FB thoroughly ticked me off because he was dishonoring President Trump. Most of us are praying for our president that he will make wise decisions and help turn this nation around. But suddenly there is this verse that says: Honor all men. That means prayer for the minister even if his comments rubbed me the wrong way. God autographs His children in their DNA. Look it up. Yahweh. So, our job is to pray for the president and also for those who despise him. Pharoah probably was not the favorite person of the Israelites, but God used him anyway. ‘Nuff said.

It’s been a hard day for working, but both coops are cleaned out, ten pounds of chicken is cooked and ready to debone and bag, and the turnips turned out very nicely. The knee is moaning while the old woman is groaning. Go figure!

Did you know that Bai water comes in energy drinks as well as that nice coconut flavor? Well, guess who drank one of the silly energy ones before bedtime last night. Dipwaddy! Had a horrible nightmare about storms and woke up to the house shaking due to those stupid gravel dumper trucks on Kemp. Be SO glad when they have finished hauling all that stuff.

The new dog beds came today in the mail. They shrink them into the plastic bags so that getting them out is a small disaster if one is not careful. But both beds are now out and in use. They like them. By the way, did you know that fabric softener and those smelly vapor things that you plug in can kill your cat and maybe even puppies? Who knew?

Patty asked me what the big caterpillars are doing next to the FFA grounds off Richard. Other than clearing out the mesquite, who knows? That will be an acre less for the bobcats to roam and the deer to bed down. We have dead deer every so often along this stretch of Kemp because of the woods and brush. But they have to have somewhere to have their fawns. Sad.

My dogs are on my bed now playing “Big Mouth.” It’s easy to tell what they are doing just from the sounds of their voices. It’s not a growl, but a huff and a puff with a little grumble at the end. They are so funny. Love them dearly.

Michelle Malay, Tim, and probably Mother Malay will be here Thursday to pick up eggs and get a couple of sweaters for the oldest dog, Maggie May. She shivers at night according to Michelle. Let us remember Michelle in our prayers. The doctor said that this next surgery is going to be much harder because the leg is about two inches shorter! Yikes.

Please remember those like Tami Yonts, Mariellen Rose, Raye Louise, and others who have had to deal with leukemia and other forms of disease. We know that God is our healer, but we also know that life is hard when we have to grit our teeth and deal with the realities of living in this life. May God bless us.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Hiraeth (n.)

 Hiraeth (n.)

Hiraeth is the name for a homesickness for a home you can’t return to, or that never was. It’s a Welsh word, but the feeling is quite familiar to me—and probably to others as well. Growing up with our parents, we often heard stories of how life on the farm was when Dad was a boy. And then we traveled over those same trails up to the hills above the farm and down in the gulleys cut by the creek. Mom told stories about her brother Tracy and how it was a necessity for him to play football against the Indian boys who were on the other teams. Any boy bigger than a post had to be on the team, it seems. And then they went into the service as soon as WWII broke out. Tracy just happened to go into the Navy, and he made it home eventually. Granddad Kennedy was in the oil field and was determined that Tracy go to college to learn how to work with his head instead of his hands. Guess that worked out ok. Anyway, the stories took us to far off places that Sterling might have seen after Vietnam, but hiraeth did not hit me until we went to Scotland. It felt like home for some reason. Now, with dogs and hens, my home is here on this ol’ hill where we reared children and lived out our lives. Praise God for keeping me settled down here in Texas.

According to a brief glance at the weather forecast, we might have some warmer weather soon. It’s really hard to believe that it will happen, but stranger things do happen than a warm front in the end of January or first part of February.

Saw a post on FB today that about made me sick. The person who made the post is supposed to be a minister. The list of disgusting things he said made me realize again that God hears our words. Have a feeling that my mouth might need to be washed out by my mom’s standards, but would certainly not want to be held accountable for the things coming from that man. Never, EVER, lie about anyone. God knows the truth. Telling lies makes a person the offspring of Satan, the father of lies.

Had a wonderful visit with my daughter-in-law today. That hardly ever happens, but it made my day so much brighter. Told her that the turnips and ribs did not get sent home with Lance, but the next time he comes, will be sure to get more turnips! Think maybe that was a gagging sound in the background. Giggling. But some folks feel that way about Brussels sprouts! Think the son-in-law feels that way about ALL of that kind of veggies. Poor folks just don’t know how good those things are!! Now have to remember to cook some for the grandsons if they ever make it home again. Even Rachel might try just a bite.

Sent the little dog house home with Lance and the CATS have decided it is theirs. Pretty sure that Codi will prove them to be mistaken. That house is perfect for a momma dog nesting. Tracy noticed that the zipper on the thing just KEEPS going. It totally unzips from one end to the other! Easy to wash!

Let us remember to give glory to the God who heals and loves us no matter where we are or in what manner we live. His mercy is always there.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

A Day with My Son.

 A Day with My Son.

Since the old woman had the feed loaded up in the truck yesterday, when Lance got here this morning, all we had to do was unload the truck and spend some good, quality time visiting. Truly enjoyed the time with him. And yes, the dogs were all over him. They love him, too.

We walked down to Patty’s to take her some Purina Pro dog food from my dogs’ feed bin. It wasn’t quite five gallons, but it will take Roxy a while to eat all of it. Lance took the lid off so Patty wouldn’t have to deal with prying the lid off, and then he put it where she wanted it. While we were there, we went down to the basement to look for the empty garbage bin and the towels she wanted sent to Katy’s Dog Place. We found the lights, but the towels we found were not the ones she had in mind. Think this batch should probably be washed before being sent to Katy. Patty thinks the towels she had in mind were rolled up and in a container. Oh well. Maybe DG will find them when he comes.

Took some cookies and some Hershey kisses over to Shona’s the other day. She mentioned the cookies but not the chocolate, so it made me wonder if the chocolate disappeared. Hmm. Stuff happens. Each year John R. gives me some chocolate in January in remembrance of youngest son. Hanan and John had an understanding about certain things and really liked each other.

My day started off a bit wobbly before Lance got here and then a major panic attack hit as he drove up. That took a bit to go away, but Lance understood as well as anyone could who has never had one. Really wish these things made sense or at least gave warnings. Can’t drive when they happen and talking is next best thing to impossible. Totally disgusting and disconcerting.

On Tuesday or Wednesday the plumbers will be back to do something to the lavatory in the main bathroom. Until then, either the little bathroom or the kitchen sink will have to do. Simply hoping this does not cost enough to float a boat!

Listened to a minister tell about Dr. Livingstone and how the surrounding chiefs had decided to wipe out the leader and all those in his compound. But they stood there and left them alone. When Dr. Livingstone asked the belligerent chief why he did not attack, he said that there were 39 giants surrounding the camp. When Dr. Livingstone went back to Scotland to his home church, he told this story and the secretary told him to wait a minute. According to the records, on the day that the cruel chief approached Livingstone’s camp, there were 39 members of the congregation praying for the success of the mission that day in church. Yep, we have a mighty God and He hears our prayers.

Any MORE to ADD to THIS Day?

Any MORE to Add to THIS Day?

Had groceries delivered this morning because the old woman did not want to lift and haul stuff from the truck to inside the house. Well, the “driver” of the delivery car was thoroughly ticked off and just dropped my groceries on the front sidewalk. When asked to put them on the porch, she left most of them on the sidewalk where she dropped them and put the two cases of water on the porch. Well, joy to the world! So, step up and down six or seven times to go get the groceries off the walkway and bring them inside. Have thought about telling United what this made me want to do. Can’t decide if they need to be told about this driver’s attitude or if it is just MY attitude that sucks. But, ya know, she got a tip from me along with whatever they pay her for her work. But she was griping that they take money out of her tips. Seems to me, if you don’t like a job as badly as she did, it’s time to get a different job.

My grocery order was mostly correct, but asked for some of those flavored drinks that don’t contain sugar. The Signature brand is not terribly expensive, but one of the flavors was not on the shelf, and the grocer who picked my stuff off the shelves substituted “tonic” water for the flavored kind. Really!! Bleah.

Went to the feed store to get loaded up on feed. They were plum out of the good pecans, but got some that were called “Trash” pecans. They are spicy! One of the kids will like those. Anyway, parked the truck in the carport and walked across the grass to the front of the house. Lo and behold, water was on the water meter. Got a leak. Called the plumbers and will see them sometime this evening—maybe. Then came inside and was washing my hands in the lavatory and bumped the shelf next to the lavatory and knocked down a big bottle of lotion. It landed on the thing that plugs the drain and that thing would not come back up. Now the plumbers have one more thing to do. Shaking my head and feeling plum disgusted.

Just went outside to see how things are going along. Told the plumber to feel free to cuss the idiot who planted that tree (me). The entire pipe broke off down in the dirt a way. We may have to have an entirely new line to the house. Lord help us! Maybe the plumber can at least restore water to the house tonight.

Tried a new sweater on Thompson this morning. It was too large. Asked Jenn if her Lab would wear it, but she said Luna acts as if she is in trouble if they put something on her like that. Poor pupper. Now there are two sweaters for large dogs sitting around here. Katy said that she did not like to use sweaters on the dogs she cares for. Can understand that. The dog has to be willing to let you dress it. And then the sweater has to come off if it gets wet. Oh well. Maybe someone will need a dog sweater or two.

It's good to know that God is on our side—at our backs, in front, alongside, and all around. He has the strength and will to do what is best for us. That is all we need to ask, and then give Him praise! Praise God that He helps us in all situations.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Arguing with One's Self.

 Arguing with One’s Self.

Always, never just sometimes, but always something needs to be done. Should the old woman try to get the things done and get it over with, or should she wait until oldest child can help do the things that cause problems when the lifting and flinging all get together? Today didn’t even make it to the list of things that just needed done! However, the ten-pound bag of chicken quarters was roasted, deboned, bagged, and put in the freezer. The pans were cleaned up and put away, too. The 31.1-pound bag of dog food was emptied into the bin after the bin was emptied of the food from the last bag and placed into a Lowe’s bucket after it had been cleaned and wiped dry. That will go down to Patty’s for her dog probably when Lance gets here. It’s too heavy for an old woman to tote it down there. Then the last of the laundry was folded and put away. Just little things, but they still have to be done.

Had planned to clean out both of the coops today, but orneriness hit before that little job was accomplished. At least most of the eggs that will go home with Lance have been boxed up. The hens have been pretty productive this past couple of weeks, so there will be enough eggs for both Lance and Jennifer’s families. Even the old woman had scrambled eggs this morning. My eggs are usually ones that were accidentally knocked into something so that they cracked. And sometimes an egg will have a “soft” top because the hen is older and does not produce enough of whatever it is that makes the egg’s shell very hard. Only have about four or five older hens now. But they are the ones that produce the chocolate egg color. Such pretty eggs!

Visiting with Sterling on the phone this afternoon and told him about starting over and reading through the New Testament again. Each time, something else strikes me as important. Today was the idea of judgment. It is not our responsibility to judge others. Most of us—probably—take issue with those we know. Oh, we may love others dearly, but we tend to be judgmental. Wouldn’t it be SO much better if we would look at our own faults and shortcomings! Then we could ask for forgiveness and attempt to correct our own attitude. Attitudes are not like some easily studied subject like math, geography, or science. Nope, we have to listen carefully to the words coming from our mouth that started back there with some judgmental thought. Like a map or puzzle, we need to take time to work out the patterns of our thoughts. It would be great if we could censor the stupid thoughts more easily, but in all probability, we tend to think our thoughts are original and mighty fine. Let’s ask our Father in Heaven for the vision to see ourselves and our thoughts as they really are. May God correct us gently but firmly! And may we not cause others any hurt from our thoughtless words.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Praying One for Another.

 Praying One for Another.

James 5:16 says that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Sometimes we don’t even know what our brothers and sisters need most—or at all. Yet we are assured that God knows and hears our prayers. We need not expect that exactly what we ask for will be the result, but as one woman told me about my friend Margaret who seemed to be dying, “God will heal her, but it may not be in this life.”

Sometimes we might ask that God lead someone to make the right decisions, and then we see that some of those decisions made seem anything but loaded with common sense. We need to remember that we don’t know all the facts of any given situation. To me, anyone who hurts a police officer needs their backside whupped until they won’t think of doing something that disrespectful again. It doesn’t do any good to second guess how things are going to work out, but on the other hand, it never hurts to ask God for His intervention and supervision when at all possible.

Went to the doctor today and scheduled for a test the first week in February. Someone laughed about how as we get older, we just look at our calendars and see if we have a month free of any doctors’ appointments. That is about the truth. Have to go see Dr. Kelly about my eyes second week in February. So much for February! Maybe the weather will be decent.

Have another load of clothes (towels and blankets) in the dryer for now. The weather is just about right for doing laundry. Can remember when my mom had a wringer washer and a couple of tubs to rinse the clothes—and clothesline poles out in the back yard. Some of those things would freeze right there on the line. Sterling reminded me that he had to go out and take his Levis and Daddy’s khaki pants off the line so Mom could iron them dry. Those of you who miss the good ol’ days are most welcome to those experiences!!

The fires just keep popping up in CA, and the freezes in the South have already taken lives. Whether it is a volcano, an earthquake, a drought, or all-consuming fires, we just have to ask for God’s protection and intervention. This world has enough geophysical problems without the absolute absurdity of geopolitical crises. Sometimes it feels as if there might not be even one little corner of the world that is not tainted with hatred and disastrous circumstances! Let’s just do our part to pray for those who do not know that Jesus Christ is the son of God and who do not understand how important it is to hold onto the faith that He is willing to give us. May God have mercy on our souls and fill us with His faith.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Faith and Works.

 Faith and Works.

James makes it pretty clear that our faith is made evident by the works we do, but that is not to say that all these works are of faith. Even so, it seems to me that the situations that come up in our lives make sense that without faith we probably would not be as likely to do what needs to be done. Either way, whether we do things to help others out of some grandiose feeling of personal worth or because these things simply need to be done, we should be doing all things, showing love to others, due to our faith in what God would have us do. We are so blessed when we are able and willing to do what is called for in life for others. Our prayers may seem to us as the only thing we can give, but by what we can see in the scriptures, prayer is not a small thing to give. We ask; He gives.

South Texas got some snow last night. Oh, we got enough here on the lake to show that the moisture falling turned to ice—snow on the ground. The hens didn’t seem to care and took off to do their thing as soon as the doors were opened. Had one hen kept inside the bathroom last night. She was acting poorly and didn’t seem to want to move. Hoping the night spent inside did some good. She was definitely ready to go outside this morning.

If Lance were not planning to come this Saturday, the old woman would make a trip to the feed store today, but all the things on my list are rather heavy. The little wagon that Roger put together for me has helped a lot, but still have to pull those 50-pound bags out of the truck bed. Actually, just pulling the wagon means putting strain on that stupid knee. Wish the muscles and tendons of my youth were still around today. Sigh.

Will see a doctor tomorrow. Have thought every thought that an old woman might come up with trying to decide if the appointment would be kept. Finally decided it is kind of silly to be this way. Just knowing one way or the other if something can be ignored or not might make me feel better.

My oldest grandson is having problems with his heart and will be wearing one of those silly monitors some this week. Can remember having to do that back some years ago. When your heart thinks it needs to go ninety to nothing when there is no reason, it makes you try to slow down just to breathe. One of Lewis’ cousins has the same problem—or something similar. Not sure if this is one of those mental/emotional problems that cause the excessive rates or if it is something physical. Seems several people in my acquaintance have had the same problem. Go figure.

Let us pray for common sense for those handling the newest migrant express headed our way. The United States has never had the obstructions like many of the European countries have on their borders. But that does not mean we want to be invaded either! May our president and those in charge of such situations make the best decisions to prevent unwarranted violence.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Seasonal Comparisons.

 Seasonal Comparisons.

Dear Hearts, as hard and dry as this past summer was, this cold and harsh, wind-filled winter is not any better. Argh! Maybe a few of those bugs that come from the Western Soapberry trees will freeze and not be able to reproduce in the millions!  That is about the only good thing about freezing weather. Oh, Paul Dowlearn would tell you that certain flowers and trees need a good freeze to do well, but those freezes certainly do make an old woman’s knees and other joints ache! Natter, natter, natter.

Sterling goes Tuesday to have the second eye surgery. He is so hoping to be able to read now. One eye is so much better, but two working together would have to be great! Let’s just pray that they don’t end up with snow and ice up there in NWArkansas on Tuesday.

Our president was inaugurated today. Some of us are taking a deep breath and letting God know how much we appreciate the change of direction. God puts men in places of power, so we can only wonder about the last one. But still, Heb. 13:17 says, “obey them that have the rule over you.” Still, the contrast is pretty startling. Whatever office God gives to mankind, it is our job to pray for their direction for the benefit of all.

My teeth hurt when thinking about the hostages and the exchanges going on in Israel and Gaza. Imagine a terrorist giving you a going-away gift after you have suffered through more than a year in captivity! Somehow that just seems as if it is the image of a middle finger toward Israel. But then, that is just my take.

The dogs’ food package came today and that box may stay there until the old woman is able to use up what is in the feed bin for them. By next week, Lance should be here and could empty it for me into the bin. Dipping it out a bit at a time will work otherwise.

Thinking about what Paul talked about in the end of Hebrews, he said that Christ, like the bodies of the (sacrificial) beasts thrown outside the camp, was set apart outside the gate. Heb. 13:13-14 And we must also “go forth therefore unto him without the camp…14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” Someday we will have another home as it has been promised. Praise God!

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Dealing with Cold and Hen Houses.

Dealing with Cold and Hen Houses.

Think one of the hens must have stepped on the control switch on the electric cord to the heated water bowl inside the coops. So, this morning the water bowl was semi-frozen. Took it out and dumped what was in there, cleaned it out, refilled it, turned the switch back on and set it in a slightly different place. Here’s hoping.

Even dressed in layers, Dear Hearts, it is cold out there. But at least the wind is not blowing a gale across Lake Wichita. Yesterday the wind never let up until late afternoon. The dogs were not especially happy to go outside, but did their thing and came right back in. Can’t say that was not surprising. The temperature on the deck this morning was 20 degrees while the temp on the front porch in the sunshine was 27 degrees. Definitely not sweater weather!

The neighbors across the street drove in from Plainview last night accompanied by swirling snow. It didn’t make it all the way here with them, however. Won’t hear me griping!

Wondering about a few things lately—the exchange of prisoners just seems unreal. So far maybe three women who are in “stable” condition? It just seems unreal to attempt to bargain with terrorists, like petting a rattlesnake. May God bless those people involved that have been held from their families.

And then tomorrow our president takes office. The flag will be raised to full staff for that day and then lowered to half staff for the rest of the month in remembrance of President Carter. So much has been said lately about the fact that President Biden had to be helped to sign any bill or paper put in front of hm. Dementia. It is no respecter of persons. But it is a shame that someone else has been running our government behind the scenes.

Reading through the book of Hebrews currently. Sometimes so much is packed into what Paul had to say, but it feels as if he were reassuring those who believed that they would never be lost as long as they kept their eyes on God and His purpose. It makes me think that those who are lost into the world of insanity or dementia are not under the same judgment as those who purposely disregard the gift of the spirit of God. Can’t prove my theory, but it does not feel like those who are losing their minds are willingly being at cross purposes with God. How much more important it is for us to live our lives with respect and love toward others as a reflection of God’s love for us.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Six Squeaky Toys! 1/18/2025

 Six Squeaky Toys! 1/18/2025

Since this blog is open to the public, perhaps readers will understand why no friends’ names are mentioned unless they have specifically given me permission.

Thompson and Sylvia got a box from Chewy in the mail today with six squeaky toys—the kind that rattle somewhat but have no stuffing to strow all over the place. They are busy chewing, squeaking, and otherwise making slobbers the tune of the day. They did not stay out long this morning even though we have plenty of sunshine. It is still cold out there and the wind is blowing pretty hard. According to the weather station in the living room, the wind is at 15 mph and the temp is about 37 degrees. Not exactly a pleasant feel for some of us. My knee says that it is uncommonly uncomfortable while my knuckles are just stiff.

Reading in Hebrews this morning about how Christ is a priest after the order of Melchisedec. For those of us who firmly believe that Christ is the son of God, we know that when we ask to be forgiven of any sin, it is forgiven. Max Lucado wrote a 365-day devotional that has one page that lists who we are:

God’s child (John 1:12)

Christ’s friend (John 15:15)

A member of Christ’s body (I Cor.12:27)

A saint (Eph. 1:1)

Redeemed and forgiven of all your sins (Col 1:14)

Complete in Christ, lacking in nothing (Col 2:10)

Free from condemnation (Romans 8:1-2)

God’s coworker (2 Cor. 6:10)

Seated with Christ in the heavenly realm (Eph 2:6)

God’s workmanship (Eph 2:10)

A citizen of heaven (Phil 3:20)

Adopted into God’s family (Eph 1:5)

Born of God, and the evil one cannot touch you (I John 5:18)

Now, all these things are true because they come from the Word of God. And God cannot lie. The one that appeals to me the most is the idea of being God’s workmanship. Whether it has been sewing clothes for the children, making meals, or attempting to keep the house organized, this old woman knows what workmanship means. It is never finished, for one thing. One always has to strive to set a certain pattern and keep it true. That is what it feels like to be a Christian. Trying every day to be true to the pattern set before me. Let us remember to look to that pattern each day.

Wild Weather Ahead!

 Wild Weather Ahead!

Saw online a few minutes ago that the Route 66 Group thinks our weather is going to be bad this next week and they want to delay our meeting until February 13. Seems reasonable to me. Shortly after that, FB tossed me out and said I had done something or someone got into my account. Stuff like that makes me want to use fowl (yeah, the chicken kind of) language.

Got one more shipment of dog bed stuff this morning. Got down on my knees—like an idiot—to attempt to straighten up Sylvia’s crate for her. Finally got the bedding fixed to suit me, but then had to get off the floor. Oh joy!

It does look like it could rain today, but do not plan to go get feed unless it actually rains. Could just use up what is here for now if necessary. Have just about emptied up one big trash can of the high protein feed that is in the middle coop. Can always just take the feeder to the workshop to fill it. Guess it could be put in a different container for inside the front coop, for that matter. Oh well. At least the water was not frozen this morning.

Saw a picture on FB of two boys who had broken open some hay bales and made a snow hen sitting on the nest of hay. SO cute! Kids can come up with some of the darndest ideas!

Well, thunder and lightning is on a roll! Both dogs would like to be under my desk, thank you very much! And no, it is not big enough under there for two dogs. Thinking we need some comfort food—cheese and chips! At least the noise is not as bad as those F-35s that fly over!

Well, one nap and a couple of phone calls later . . . dogs have been fed and the eggs gathered. Not going to have very many to send home with Lance this time. A thing on the computer (AOL) said that the price of eggs in some places was nearly $10 per dozen. That is just horrible! I know the feed is out of sight expensive, but still!

I can’t seem to quit sneezing, so it’s probably going to be a good week to stay away from anyone. Probably just allergies from all this good wind. Michelle Malay said they barely had more than just a breeze out her way. Guess living on this lake makes a big difference since nothing stops the wind blowing hard up this hill. Noticed that one of the trees near the highway had split off a large branch. At least it did not fly off into the road.

We know that God is in control of all things, even if we can believe that things could be much better in certain situations. Just so long as God is in control—which He always IS—whatever comes along will be for the best in the long run. His plans always are best. Just ask Joshua! The Israelites were given Canaan, the most fruitful place for their nation. They could see it through human eyes, but God saw it in His own way.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Internet Problems.

 Internet Problems.

As if anything else can go sideways around here, today it is the internet. Amazing how much the old woman depends on seeing her email, headlines, and things like birthdays on FB. Oh well.

Haven’t accomplished much today. Got the living room cleaned up yesterday and rearranged, and now the dogs are getting used to the arrangement. You’d think that was no biggie, right? But a new bed for Thompson came today, so they have been taking turns lying down on it.

Ok, (yes, Daniel, I rebooted) my internet is now working. Spectrum has some nice folks to text or talk to one, but it still is annoying to have things go south for no reason. Such is life.

Not being able to get online today may have been a blessing. Took it easy and did not walk more than absolutely necessary. Yesterday was probably enough. Used the heavy vacuum that Jenn got for me because it really picks things up good. Ran it over the sections of carpet in both the living room and kitchen, so those were at least not messy with stuff. The dogs have a habit of taking the “good stuff” off their kibble and dribbling it on the piece of carpet under their bowls. Can’t just dust mop that stuff. Deep sigh.

Patty and the old woman were talking about how God decided before we were born about what He planned for us to do in our lifetimes. She said that must be the only reason she is still alive—she has something still that He wants her to do. Understand pretty much what she means and agree. Can think of several situations that should have been the end of this ol’ gal. And still, here we are. Praying that what He wants done will be done with the best attitude possible. May we all please Him and be a blessing for others.

Just Painfully Aware.

 Just Painfully Aware.

Some days everything goes just fine whether or not the old woman gets enough sleep the night before or whatever she tries to do gets completed. Today isn’t going to be one of those days. Panic attacks make absolutely no sense whatsoever. But any kind of pain just adds to the problem. So, weather related aches or whatever, we are right there today. Wish happiness came out just because it is needed in light of what goes on in the world, but such is not the case. My apologies for not being able to even think of a good joke. Can tell you that two separate flocks of Canada geese flew over the back yard yesterday evening. It occurred to me that looking up at them might not be wise. Thankfully, none of them needed to answer any other call of nature right then.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Finished Cooking.

 Finished Cooking.

Finally got the last three pounds of ground turkey baked and bagged. Haven’t got much else accomplished, but since no one is standing around griping about it, will just blow it off. Maybe tomorrow the living room will get cleaned and rearranged.

Barbara, Shona’s mom, is going back to Plainview this weekend. She has friends there and got a relatively inexpensive place to stay. She said she did not understand how Patty and the old woman could be happy just staying at home all the time. Think it might depend on how we grew up and how much our families mixed with people. My parents were not much at visiting others unless they were family. That’s pretty much how things have worked out with me. Jennifer and Gary mingle pretty well, but Lance is not a mingler. Think he could stack up books and be happy from now on. Maybe some walking in the woods and camping would keep him happy. Lewis was not fond of camping, and it definitely was not my thing! Too many spiders, snakes, and assorted critters!

The ground was covered in frost this morning. If anything was growing any taller than a few inches, it would have been more like ice spears! Think Thompson got a sticker in his right paw. And my vision is not good enough to see anything in that paw. If it is still bothering him tomorrow, might have to see the vet. Have tried hard to keep the stickers out of the side lots, but invariably some grow around the sides near the fence.

Was talking to Sterling today about having a prayer list. He said he has one but does not know how to remove people from his. Mine is on paper, so no biggie. Besides, most of those folks need ongoing prayers.

Finished reading the second book of Timothy. Paul said that in the end times there would be a great falling away. Even back then a couple of “ministers” were claiming that the resurrection had already taken place. Paul wanted them removed so that they would not have any chance to teach falsehoods. Guess there will always be those who think the church should buy their salvation and God’s favor. Nope, just doesn’t work that way. And isn’t it wonderful that God loved us before we were even born. He planned on what He wanted us to do ahead of time. That is just mind-boggling! He gave us certain situations and expected us to do His will even when we had no idea that it was His idea! Neat!

Let us continue to pray for those like Henrietta Arguien and her daughter who lost their homes. I wish Henrietta and her daughter and family could come here, but have no idea what her daughter’s husband does for work. At least housing and the cost of living is more reasonable here than in CA. We can joke about not wanting all those folks coming to Texas, but it might make more sense than trying to wait until the infrastructure could be replaced in Altadena or there abouts. So, just pray that they will be able to make good decisions.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Cleaning Out the Linen Closet.

 Cleaning Out the Linen Closet.

This morning it took more than a few bags to hold all the little blankets, sheets, and assorted things that just left here to go to Katy’s Dog Place. She said that they have about 49 dogs of all sizes. Mine got out the door to meet them as the old woman stepped outside on the front porch. Kat helped to get them back inside. She understands big dogs! She has one that can jump a seven-foot fence!! She has to keep that one on a long leash. Can’t imagine trying to walk my two dogs at the same time any longer. They are just much stronger than the old woman.

Thought all kinds of good things would get accomplished today. And a couple of things were done, but the living room floor still needs my undivided attention. Thought it would get vacuumed, mopped, and the furniture rearranged. Maybe tomorrow. At least only three more pounds of ground turkey has to be cooked and put into Ziplock bags for the freezer. Got ten pounds of chicken deboned and put into the freezer. Also, managed to cook five pounds of beef and three pounds of turkey and placed in bags in the freezer. Not this week but next week we are supposed to have some really cold weather. Trying to prepare for cold normally means just being sure the water won’t freeze up around here, but having everything ready to feed the dogs and hens helps me to limit the time outside and on this silly knee.

Had some really tasty cauliflower stuff for din-upper today. It was Bird’s Eye bacon, cheddar, cauliflower that had to be cooked in the oven. Tasty and satisfying. If learning to cook had included that kind of stuff years ago, my weight might never have become a problem. It is really too expensive to have meals like that on a regular basis. The price of one lunch could have bought an entire head of cauliflower! Oh well.

Took a short nap this afternoon that will undoubtedly mess up my sleep tonight, but it really made me feel better at least. Have had just enough of a headache to not enjoy life to the fullest. Not sure if it’s the weather or just old age. At least the headache is gone now.

Sitting down at my little table after finishing reading a section in my Bible, it occurred to me that an actual prayer list might help me remember everyone that needed prayers. Paul told Timothy that we need to pray for those in positions of authority so that our lives could be lived in peace, so even our local mayor (Tim Short) was on the list for prayers. So very many of those who need our prayers are there because of cancer. Then, because of their jobs, the police, first responders, EMTs and nurses were on that list. We truly depend on so many people to make things reasonable in our lives. Even plumbers and electricians are important to us right now. In bad weather we need the plumbers to help keep the water flowing and the electricians can keep power going to our houses. Can’t imagine what will have to take place in NC, TN, CA, and other places affected by floods and fires! Wish my friend Henrietta had a good place here in Texas where she could come live now that her house and her daughter’s house have burned to the ground!! The pictures from the air just are dismaying. How will those boundaries ever be found under all that debris? Not just in CA, but the same is true especially in NC. So many prayers are needed for everyone in those places.

Let us remember those who suffer through no fault of their own. We are all just as easily affected by things around us.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

A Decent Sunday.

 A Decent Sunday.

The weather has been pretty decent today. We will enjoy this next week until next Saturday evening when things are supposed to get very chilled—temperature wise. Think we are looking at teens after Saturday. Not happy about that at all, but at least a freeze will kill any bugs left just slightly below the surface. Sigh. And any water lines not totally covered or otherwise bolstered against freezing temps.

Took off and went to United before lunch time and bought enough meat to make dog stuff for a couple of weeks. Chicken, turkey, and ground beef. Such fun. (Not) Anyway, while checking out, the lady checking me out was extra nice and then spoke up as soon as she finished her part of the job. Seems she recognized me as one of her teachers from the commercial college. She said that with my help and with the other teachers having taught her several skills, she was able to spend nineteen years working for the hospital here. I hope she left there because she wanted to and not for any other reason. But it made me feel pretty good that she thanked me and recognized me.

Spent some time out in the middle coop this afternoon and had it cleaned out and smelling fresher after putting out DE and dumping the poo. Will need to get another sack of DE soon, but we will see what next Saturday brings if Lance is able to come and help me unload feed. Patty has an extra metal garbage can that can hold a fifty-pound bag of whatever. Meanwhile will need to check and see if the old woman has put our dog food on subscription. Noticed that the same bag of food is $49.99 at United. So, if one is not on its way, can always get one delivered from United. Those suckers are heavy! It’s only 31.1 pounds, but it is awkward as all get out to pick up and heave around.

Reading in 1 Timothy 2:5 this morning and noticing again that Paul reiterated: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” We know that the Catholic church says that its members need a priest to intercede for them with God, but that is obviously not true. Can’t say that this old woman did not let an organization get between her and Christ Jesus! We let the church (not Catholic) dictate our way of doing things for too long and for too great an extent. No man, no church, should come between God and his son and those God has called. Some of the things Paul has said irk me beyond words, especially since he thinks that women should be silent and never teach. Would like to sit down and speak with him, but we know that would not go well. He was reared in a Jewish household and went to a Temple in which women were separated from the men. That teaching probably still exists in Israel or elsewhere, but it would never do any good around here. Oh well. Who knows what it will be like in God’s kingdom, but since there will be neither male nor female, slave or master, and any other separations, we need never be concerned about it. While it appeals to me to see my parents, grandparents, husband, and children, we have no way of knowing exactly how that will work out. If we are to recognize them the way the disciples recognized Christ upon his resurrection, surely, we will know those that have gone on before us. At least, we can hope.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Just Reading.

 Just Reading.

This was a good day for just being still, reading a good book, and not trying to accomplish much. Well, the laundry got washed, dried, and put away, but that is hardly an accomplishment. Keeping the hens happy was not the least bit difficult since the sunshine thawed the ice and snow out. Both dogs were relatively happy, too. Guess this was a good day all around.

Lance said that he might come next Saturday, so will be saving whatever eggs are laid for him. He will help me load the feed bins, too. May not have many eggs for him as the hens have slowed down on laying. Such is life. Also, one or more of the older hens has had very thin egg shells, so the nest has to be checked often to prevent messes. It is sad that there is no good way to provide them with the calcium that they need. Thought about giving the girls cottage cheese once a week. Could not be any more expensive than a head of cabbage.

Laughed at myself last night. The calendar Jenn gave me had December through December, so all day yesterday it said it was the 13th –of December. But the old woman had January in her mind. Sitting here laughing at myself. Such is life. Even called the grandson to sing to him until he told me what day it was!!

Looked all through my desk drawers for the battery backup for my phone. Just to be on the safe side, it should be around in case of a power outage. Couldn’t find it just yet, but you can bet the old woman will be looking again!!

Finished the last book of Thessalonians. They are short books, but Paul was all about telling them how much pleasure it gave him to know that their faith was well grounded, and the reports of their congregation were only good ones. That had to have been satisfying for him. It makes me wonder if Christ thinks that His sacrifice was not made in vain. It is all that we can do to hope that our faith is pleasing in His sight. We know we are loved beyond what we can imagine, but being reminded doesn’t hurt one thing! We don’t have a Paul around to hear reports of our conduct or the love we can have for others, but we know when we are praying for others that we are pleasing in His sight.

My friend Henrietta Arguien lost her home in the LA fires. Her husband died some years back, but she still has children in that area. At least one of them also lost her home. Let us pray for not only my friend but for all those who have nothing left in their lives to show that they once lived in that area. May God bless them in whatever way is the best for them.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

A Fireman and a Come-Along!

 A Fireman and a Come-along!

Patty and the old woman have been joking every so often about not being able to get up off the floor or the ground if and when we get down there. Yesterday, after doing whatever to clean the coils on the fridge and freezer, the old woman was having a terrible time trying to get up off the floor. Have to have something to grab to pull up or lift the rear end up high enough to get my legs under me! Not funny, McGee! Anyway, called Patty to see if she had taken out her trash and see if she needed any help this morning. She was supposed to call me as soon as she finished so we would not have to call for a fireman or two or at least one fireman and a come-along to get her up. We joke about just needing a couple of firemen and not the entire squad to get us up and moving. Still, we laugh but check on each other each day to be sure we haven’t ended up down and unable to get back up.

Carla Beard texted to see how things were going here. And to tell the truth, the snow is melting and it looks fairly warm out there in the back yard. No ice hanging from the eaves. But she said that they are looking for another couple of feet. Not funny if one has to drag the trash bin around in this mess! The wheels on mine were caked up with ice and snow this morning, but as soon as the wheels hit the gravel on the road, it was not that bad. The caked snow came off rather quickly. Still, the hens don’t want to walk in the snow. They are no one’s dummies!

Read more about the fires in CA this morning. Wow! Just unbelievable! And for the most part, they won’t be rebuilt. Wondering if we will see a mass exit there the way we did after Katrina. Storms are horrible, but these fires leave zero behind except for stuff that will have to be bulldozed. Well, after that hurricane it was not much different. Where will these folks go?

We may see the Amish building sheds for the homeless in LA next. Simply can’t imagine how bad it must be out there. Tornadoes are horrible and leave trails of destruction, but these fires have left hardly anything except smoking ash.

Got an email message from Katy’s Dog Place in Petrolia yesterday evening. Now a place to give the extra towels, little blankets, and too small dog coats has been found! Have started a couple of boxes of things that will help an older dog or little chihuahua to keep warm and be comfortable. Will have to get the address of her sister so they can be dropped off to be taken to Petrolia. You’d be surprised at the things we accumulate that can help in a kennel.

A dear friend just stopped by with egg cartons, some Hershey kisses, and a Claude Monet painting on a card to tell me that he and his wife remember what today is to me. Impossible to forget, said John. Seven years. And yes, there are still tears. And tomorrow my oldest grandson will celebrate his 28th birthday. He will get a Jacqui Lawson birthday card if he checks his email. Otherwise, someone might just have to text him to remind him to do that.

Let us give love to others as God has given us the ability. No one can live without love, so let us share what we have.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Chasing a Hen!

 Chasing a Hen!

Went out to see if there were any eggs when Thompson got inside the coop behind me. When the side door was opened to get HIM out, he accidentally chased one of my pretty gray hens outside. The hens are no one’s dummies. They are staying inside the coop. But now a hen is out and under the deck hiding. Hoping beyond hope that she will go back to the coop even though she has to go through all that snow!! No way she can survive without water and a warmer place to roost.

It's beautiful out there, and so far, the snow has not become ice except in the places the old woman had to tromp up and down the steps and on the sidewalk to the coops. Here’s hoping that does not completely freeze and just remains a sort of slush. Used a shovel to clean it off as much as possible.

SO glad the beach towels worked on the door of the front coop. That was a good idea, even if it was mine. They still have light and the wind has not been whipping inside the coop. Only a few eggs today, however. Naturally. Who wants to squat and lay an egg in this weather!!

My diet is not doing all that well right now. Just made a small pot of ramen noodle soup. Have freeze-dried veggies that work well for that, but still. Carbs. But that is nothing compared to the cookies—chocolate chunk. Not exactly binging on them, but even one is more than a double of too much sugar. Sigh. And no, Jennifer, have not opened the great tin of cookies yet. LOVE that metal cookie tin. Have no idea how much one of those would cost, but the tin alone would be worth some money! The customers have no idea how nice that is. Or maybe they do.

Got out the flashlight, a long-handled stiff brush, and the hand vacuum part of my Bissel. Then pulled the ice box (fridge for the children reading this) out and brushed and vacuumed the coils and motor things. Did some to the freezer, too, but that thing is not moving again until something or other freezes over. Anyway, hope that helps it remain running for much, much longer. Know appliances are terribly expensive.

Haven’t accomplished much today—haven’t even read a book or studied my Bible, but my body doesn’t really want to move very much. Each muscle and joint has been talking to me. Can’t imagine how Michelle Malay and Judie Brunson must feel with their RA. That is a horrible disease.

Haven’t read anything about the fires in Los Angeles today, but can just imagine that those folks are desperately looking for housing and a place for their critters. At the same time, thinking about those folks in North Carolina and Tennessee who lost their homes, businesses, critters, and families. God be with them all!

We need to pray for peace more than ever. This world is a mess and young ones are not even able to understand how life works on a normal day, much less in such turmoil as seems to encompass our world. May God be with us.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

The Google Queen!

 The Google Queen!

Got a call first thing this morning from the Google queen—my sister-in-law! Jacqui had read the blog and found Katy’s Place for me in Petrolia. Now it is a matter of calling the woman and finding out what she needs, if anything. Can’t imagine NOT needing something for critters.

Just went out and stapled a couple of long beach towels to the front coop door. That should allow enough light and still prevent the cold wind from hurting the hens in that coop. For sure, these girls have made their places on their roosts as their own. No changing them to another coop! If one of the metal doors has to be closed, there should still be enough light for them to get down in the morning. They would not get down this morning until the doors were opened. Apparently the Hanakuh lights and the Christmas rooster were just not enough light. Oh well.

Whooo. Not that much has been accomplished, but at least a few things are completed. Now to “goof off” until bedtime. Still waiting for Dr. Blackwell to come get some eggs. Not too sure about the weather forecast. It is SO nice outside right now. Doesn’t seem possible for the forecast to include snow. Oh well.

Sent an email to Katy’s Dog Place at ilovemutts@aol.com. Now it is up to her to get back to me about what they need. They have a post office box there in Petrolia, too. Anyway, we will see.

Took the sleepers off both dogs after Sylvia decided to go roll in hers! Ack! Dirty dog! Now to get them back into the sleepers. It is not that easy to do.

There is a semi-large hole in my front flower bed. Looks as if a pig or armadillo might have attacked it! Can’t imagine a hen making that spot without the dogs seeing her. They bark at everything they see, so that would have been included. Oh well.

We need to pray for the folks in L.A. and south where the smoke is making businesses close because of the air quality. Not just the businesses, but folks with breathing issues are suffering. Simply cannot imagine.

Now then, some kind of stomach virus is making the rounds. Danny Pollard said that Rachelle is the sickest he has ever seen in the 18 years they have been married. Apparently, this is making the rounds in the schools as well. Let us pray that none of the babies or old folks get this mess. We all have a tendency to dehydrate rather quickly. So, watch your fluid intake and drink REAL water, not simply sodas or tea. Meanwhile, avoid crowds and eating out or being around many people. Not covid bad, but bad enough if you are older!

The sunshine is making me feel as if spring can’t be too far off. Know better, but you know how it is—wishful thinking. So glad God invented seasons.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Puff the magic dragon

 Puff, The Magic Dragon!

My niece just sent a text to our group saying it seems all our childhood is passing away. Peter, Paul, and Mary were the neatest group when my kids were growing up. Well, some of the stuff they listened to was not to my taste, but I dreamed about a magic dragon! Loved the idea of dragons! Still do. Some of the new planes remind me of dragons—along with the crazy drones that fly around.

Got an order from Amazon the other day that included a hot plate type thing for my coffee cup. Now my coffee stays hot until it is gone! Really like for my coffee to be hot. And then yesterday the flavored decaf pods came in another box. This cup is chocolate marshmallow!

The little lights that came from Tar-J yesterday did not encourage my hens in the front house to get down off the roosts this morning, so Jennifer suggested using the Christmas rooster that she bought for me. It is lit up all over and should make it much lighter inside the coop. We will see if that helps.

We were supposed to have an 87% chance for snow this Thursday, but now the percentage is way lower. Know that snow is good for the fields and flowerbeds, but ice and snow are definitely not my favorite weather. Better than a tornado, but still.

Talked to Sterling about his new eye! He said that colors are SO much brighter now. He can’t use his glasses, but thinks that maybe he can get a pair of readers that might work for him for the time being. He can see way off with the eye, but reading is not exactly way off. Like his sister, patience is not one of his strongest assets. Told him to try to behave himself if at all possible.

Sitting here nibbling on Pawnee pecans from down around Santos, Texas. Good nibbling. They are not quite as flavorful as Burketts, but mighty good anyway. Don’t think a person could ever get completely tired of nibbling on these things. Daughter-in-law tells me a person is not supposed to have more than two Brazil nuts per day for some reason. And the old woman has an entire bag of them in the fridge! Sigh. Maybe two at a time? Ha!

While talking to Sterling he asked if the old woman remembered when there was no bathroom on the old farm house. Of course! We had a nice pail with a lid under the bed and a number something tub in the kitchen for Saturday night baths.

My daughter just informed me that one does not have to have a pizza with tomato sauce on it! Hmm. Pizza gives me indigestion, so when the old woman is feeling brave . . .

Just plugged in the Christmas rooster out in the front coop. Let’s hope the hens will go in there now and not stay outside!!

Did not sleep well last night, but today could hardly keep my eyes open, so a nap happened. Let’s hope it did not ruin the outlook for sleeping tonight. God gives us sleep for a good reason. We need our mind to rest as well as the body. One of the good reasons to stay away from the news is what it does to our mindset and emotions. We can read the Bible, pray, and walk out with the critters, but stir in some “news” and it just ruins the effects of study and prayer if we are not careful. Thankfully, Patty reminds me every so often that we need to search for ways to help others that will make our lives easier to keep hope at the ready. She wants to help dogs with what she has, and that makes me feel good. Wish someone from Petrolia would let me know about the lady with the kennel for abandoned dogs. She will need help in this weather.

May you all be blessed with a good attitude, healing, peace, and whatever you need to make life bearable.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Staying Warm.

 Staying Warm.

Going outside this morning did not happen as early as it normally would have. In fact, it was what one would call—LATE! The middle coop girls were already fussing about it, but the front coop girls were still up on their roosts. That should change tomorrow even if the old woman does not get out there all that early. Target had ONE package of those little lights that just barely qualify as lights. The package was all of fifty cents on sale!! Miranda, a sweet employ, helped me find them. So nice of her to look things up and take me over to them. Made sure her manager knew that I appreciated her help!

Now the long extension cord is situated in the front coop and has the cord to the warm drinking water bowl and the lights attached to it. So, the hens will be able to see and to have water that is not frozen. Their head of cabbage inside the middle coop was sitting on the ground and was frozen solid! At least they have all the feed they will need in there. Their feathers and the shelves should keep them fairly warm in the front coop. The girls in the middle coop tend to cluster together in a row.

One of our classmates has already suggested that we delay our next Route 66 meeting due to the ice, snow, and cold weather expected. Suits me. I hate even driving in cold weather. The only good thing snow and ice ever did for me was give me the opportunity to meet my future husband at the time. Best blizzard in my life!

Have an oodle of books downloaded on my Kindle to read, so if nothing rips, rears, or ravels, that is what the old woman will be doing for the next month or so. Since singing has not been in my slender case of talents in a very long time, humming happily will simply have to do. God gives each of us a song to sing in life, and having the pleasure of sharing someone’s vision of life, history, or other sights of lands and people is one of the greatest gifts. Libraries. Until the day the old woman wrecked her little truck back years ago, it would not have been the least bit surprising if she had gone on to become a librarian. Such fun!

May we all be an example of ones who would be there for others.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
