Finding That Which One Loses.

Putting one's phone down without remembering where might be a sign of forgetfulness? Absent mindedness? Stupidity? Whatever it is, the phone was right there in the side of the chair where the backside had been sitting. Thought a message on FB was going to be necessary if it did not show up, but just a simple walk through of the usual places helped it turn up. Honestly! No longer having a house phone is not always a good thing. Except it is no longer one of those monthly bills.

Sat outside to watch the chickens just long enough to attract a mosquito or two. Yep, they were blood thirsty wenches! Do you know that it is only the females that bite? They do it while they are in breeding season or something like that. Otherwise, they are pollinating plants. Never knew why God created them to start with, but maybe the lack of honey bees can be assuaged with a horde of hungry hot hornets or just these mean little mites of viciousness. Argh!

The dogs went to visit the vets today. Think that other than rabies shots, that will be the last planned visit. Although the vet found a swelling on Thompson's leg that might be a problem later. Right now it does not seem to be bothering him. And just a visit to see the vet costs too much to consider. And thank you very much, he was not going to take their little pill to keep fleas and ticks off of him. Sylvia just holds out her tongue and laughs and gulps down anything offered to her. So maybe the fleas will leave her alone at least. Cindy Jones suggested that just washing them in Dawn would do the trick. It is certainly too much to consider spraying the entire back yard and the side lots. And even spreading DE is too much to consider. Have it in the coops for the hens, but they just go out there and dust all over in that stuff. Little grey clouds of dust come out of the coop when they are dusting.

Think my friend Charlie Anderson is in the hospital. Not sure which one is JCM. But that was the note he posted this morning. Will look again in a bit to see if he has posted anything else. Hoping some of his family will be watching closely even though they don't allow visitors in the hospitals right now. Makes it hard on both patients and families. But they are just trying to keep this mess from spreading.

Made stir fry this evening for din-upper that included a chunk of salmon. Mushrooms, snow peas, onion, and salmon make a pretty decent meal. BR says the meals around here are pretty weird. Nodding my head. Lewis would never have eaten salmon like this. But then, he did not like fish at all. We never even ate fried fish unless it was to keep from insulting someone. The cornmeal has never set well with me, so it was never a problem whenever we talked about cooking anything other than hamburger, steak, liver, or chicken. We did have some grilled snapper once while we were in Corpus Christi. Most expensive meal we ever had! And one time we had some octopus legs or something that chewed as if it were catheter hose! Calamari or something. Ah, squid. Bleah. To each his own.

Got to talk to Jennifer today for a bit. Her husband Gary has been knee deep in working this past week, and she is pretty adamant that they need to train someone to do some of the stuff he does in designing programs for their business. After all, if something happened to him, it would be pretty difficult to keep the business going. Jennifer is sharp, but designing computer programs is not something she would ever want to do. Both boys could do it if Gary has the patience to teach them, however.

Finished reading a mystery and started another book that is not exactly a mystery, but a family thing that makes a person wonder why families are so strange sometimes. Just about every family has some little kink in it--one person or another who holds everyone else away or at least at arm's length. My family was certainly no exception. Have some letters from Uncle Morgan that showed some legal battle was going on between the Pollard family members. Don't think my granddad wanted to be involved, but he was not willing to just roll over and allow one of the brothers to take the entire estate. Anyway, Morgan must have been pretty hot tempered about it because that is basically what he told their lawyer. He was not giving up without a fight.

Have sat here and thought about all the lands in the Middle East where people have/had land and homes and places that mattered to them. And now that entire area is so messed up. The major cities are in ruins. The homes are pulverized into dust castles. The fields are left untended. And yet, they are willing to fight on. Maybe something is there in those families that makes them unwilling to just roll over, too. But then, the Israeli people feel the same way about the land where they live. And then we can go back a little way in our own history--removing the Indians from their lands. Is it really any wonder they fought? Was talking to Cindy the other evening about how the Irish were sold as slaves by the British. They had less value than a black person because the black men and women were strong and good breeders. Go figure. Then the Chinese were slaves on the West Coast the same as we had slaves on the East Coast. Yep, we don't have any more excuse than the British did by sending their criminals to Australia--we just sent the Cherokee to Oklahoma. Ah, as much as things change, they don't really change at all.

Well, found another one of the Eve's Necklace trees in the flower bed. Anyone want one? They smell wonderful when they bloom. However, every freaking part is poisonous! Wish the man at the nursery had told me that at the time.

Oh, got a funny for ya. LOVE my grandsons, but Reece may hurt me for telling this. He had never seen a grapefruit because Jennifer does not buy them and has never had them in the house. They make one's medicines intensify in effects, so they can be dangerous. So, he went in the kitchen a grabbed an "orange" from the table and peeled it and bit in. Bleah! He had to ask his mom why it tasted like Lysol! She explained that the only part to eat is the inside and not the white membrane--and that it was NOT an orange but a grapefruit. Sorry, but the way she told it just made me cackle!

Lance just sent me a meme of a Kermit the Frog looking out a rainy window saying, "I bet giraffes have never smelled a fart." Shaking my head here. Doesn't take much to amuse the members of my family. Thinking of Nikki Smith's boys!

Well, my neighbor Donny Anderson just rode by on his motorcycle. The dogs hate motorcycles, but he drives by very slowly so that they have time to bark all across the living room from one set of windows to the other. deep sigh

Other than reading about the teacher in France who discussed freedom of the press and got his head removed for it, have not seen anything that makes me want to read any of the "news." It just about makes me want to go hide out somewhere. But at least we know that more people have done early voting so far than has ever happened in the past. One way or the other, people have very strong feelings about this election. God help us.

May you all rest well and stay healthy. Remember to pray for this nation and for everyone to be affected by God's love because YOU are loved.
