Road Trips.

Sitting here consuming spinach-artichoke dip with Pita pocket style chips. Yum. Kinda veggie-fied, but not really. Was just talking to my friend AnnaBeth Graf who is in Mississippi. No rain in her forecast, but then, we both got to talking about farm critters--naturally. Her husband used to have chickens in their back yard over on Chase. Her neighbors loved her 'cause Beth gave 'em eggs. But then, they had too many hens for their needs--just like yours truly. Not sure how that can be changed exactly, but am thinking seriously of trying to find a good home for some of my ladies. Someone on the Chickens of WF group was saying that there is a virus in our area affecting the chickens. So far, mine have stayed healthy as long as it is not extremely hot or no varmints can get to them. But by the time the pullets get ready to lay eggs in about four months, about 20 of these girls need to find new homes. Just want to be sure that they are cared for in the manner to which they have been loved. Hoping that Michelle DeMers really wants big hens. She has been griping about hers all being too small. Buff Orpingtons are definitely large hens.

Told Beth that it is forecast to be 98 degrees this Sunday. Then go back to 80 or so. Not too keen on that 98 degree stuff! But in a couple of months, 80 will sound good. Such is life in Texas.

According to 360, Gary and Jennifer are almost to Texarkana. Not a really bad town, but definitely would not want to live there. But Lance and Tracy are going to some cabin in East Texas this Wednesday to just have a few days to themselves.

Wow! The dogs are having hysterical fits. A skunk just loped across the road and back behind Jerry's fence. Hope it does not come back this way again tonight. The hens will be put up, of course, but really do not want to have to bathe a stinky dog. Even though a shotgun resides next to the bookcase, simply do not want to use buckshot on that critter. It would probably blow Jerry's fence away! Strictly speaking, think it is against the law to shoot a gun inside the city limits, too.

Cleaned out the chicken coop today where the big hens stay. Put the fertilizer in some holes the dogs and hens have dug out in the side lot. Of course, they will have to go out there and scratch it out again. Also took down a shelf that Jerry put up. He simply does not listen. A roost does not call for a shelf. Poles are perfect--or two by fours. Most of the roosts up above that are those dowel rods that had been used originally for something else. And no, BillyeRuth, no branches are available on this ol' hill. Trees are pretty limited--or terribly brittle as in the ones from the Western Soapberries. Those trees are useless except for shade. Well, the Cedar Waxwings like to eat the berries.

My sister-by-another mother told me that her sister-in-law Sharron Dickerson has had her pace maker put in and is stable as far as we know. She was taken to Southwest by ambulance after being care flighted into WF to the hospital here. Not sure why the surgery was not done here, but know that Southwest is one of the best. Sharron lost her husband a year or so ago. Has needed a pace maker, but think everything has been on hold. Then the aorta near her stomach sprung a leak and they had to remove a tumor about the size of an apple. Just one thing after another. Kinda like this year.

Pulled out my Strong's Concordance to try to look up something that keeps coming to my mind--without the memory of where it was and exactly how it was worded. It does make a difference. This one seems to have said: Who considers when the righteous are taken from this world that they will not face the tribulations to come. Will eventually find it, but it is bugging me. Have thought those things so often when considering how many of my dear friends have gone on--including my parents and those who knew scripture so very well. Sometimes it makes me feel guilty not to remember things better. But that may as well be part of this aging stuff. Just the gist of things without the exact wording. sigh

Did not get the herb box filled up today, but at least the top soil is loaded in the little wheel barrow thing. Maybe tomorrow.

Cindy Jones and her daughter Nikki Smith just left. They brought me some fresh milk and a box of veggies! Yay! Love visiting with them. They have the sweetest kids, too. Nikki suggested that maybe my chickens might find homes faster if they are put on the barnyard page. Do not want to put them on the chicken page cause some of those folks have no clue what they are doing. Which end is up on an egg? rolling eyes here Also, some of them have been talking about having health issues in their hens. So far, these are healthy. However, it just dawned on me that the old woman had not gone out to lock the hen house doors! With a skunk roaming the neighborhood, that is just what we DON'T need!

Nikki told me that this drug--Gabapentin--will make a person gain weight. Great, just great. It can help with the pain, but how does one avoid gaining weight? Hmm. Would really like to avoid taking much of anything other than the bp or other basic ones. Pretty sure it will never be a drug-free house. hmm

Poor Louisiana: Nine inches of rain in some places. Wind gusts of 100 mph. Lord have mercy on them.

Please pray for our nation, President Trump and others who are trying to guide this nation. We have so much sadness ahead of us at this rate. Too many people are just unhinged, and the rest can't deal with what will happen next. May God protect us all.

May you have peace and rest tonight. You are loved.
