So the wind has howled in tune with the eaves and been banging about on anything not weighted down; therefore, it is with delight that we bring you the latest tunes in Texas---Ahhhahahahacchoooooo! Drips are free, but tissues are optional for those without face masks.
The other day the tractors were mowing the sides of the road, and that seemed an automatic source of sneezes, but this wind has brought something that makes the eyes water and the head feel as if it were swollen. God made us this way, right?
Some unhappy chicks out back right now. Closed the door to the greenhouse to try to get the pullets to move into the big coop. We shall see how that works out. If they will just go in there, maybe the door can be closed on their little feathered fannies and they will have to decide how to cope after that. They spend an extraordinary amount of time inside there anyway, so maybe they will take to the rafters as the other hens have. We live in hope.
Woke at 3 a.m. and could not get back to sleep. Crazy. Even tried to take a nap this afternoon. Nope. Not happening. Oh well. Spent this afternoon watching Ms. Marple and found her mystery solving skills as fascinating as ever. Good shows like that just can't be found much today. Well, a couple of the British shows are decent. Rosemary and Thyme is a good series. Can't remember the name of another one about a police officer (woman) and her three children. Pretty good show. Whatever happens in real life is portrayed on those shows. Thankfully not all of it is gruesome.
Oh! Finally found the extra lantern in the kitchen window above the sink. Still don't remember putting it there, but it is a solar powered thing, so that actually is the best place for it. Makes sense--well, the placement does even if the old woman does not.
Just had to let the pullets back into their own space. The hens are very territorial and were pecking them. Nuts! Maybe later after they get a bit bigger. They are not three months old yet. Eventually they will be as large as the others--well, maybe not as large as the Buff Orpingtons, but as large as the others. The Wyandottes are pretty hefty ladies, but not as ornery as the Hamburgs were. Still wondering how BillyeRuth is going to get these new birds into her hen house. Guess they will get there eventually.
Connie was going to have me pick up Rebekah and take her home to her hotel today, but apparently the dentist went in and got the work done in less than an hour, so Connie was able to take her back to the hotel before her own appointment. Being under general anesthesia can be just a bit funny or daunting. A person really has no idea if the pain is real or kinda just a dumb feeling. Wake up in the morning and find that your face is bruised as if a fist fight took place without your participation! Never have liked going to the dentist!
Have an entire bottle of Benadryl somewhere in this house. Had intended to give Thompson a couple of pills for his itchies, but could not find the stuff. Dogs can't have the other kind that people take. Not sure why. The stuff the vet prescribed is something like $2.30 a pill. A bit much. So instead of the pills, he got powdered with some stuff that TSC puts out that is supposed to relieve itches. Guess he is better because he is not constantly banging the floor with his back leg. Poor critter.
Have stayed off of FB and have not looked at any news, so if the world is going to hell in a handbasket, it has not been given any advice or directions from this person. It's pretty much taken for granted around here that common sense only rides its broom on full moons or on the sixth Friday of the month. Meanwhile Sharon let me know that her sister-in-law is having to go to a rehab place for a little bit. Know all of us tend to think that we can take care of ourselves if we can even get out of bed, but sometimes it is better to have someone else do things for us until we are strong enough to actually take care of the necessities. Have never had to depend on strangers, but Lewis had to take care of me after surgery for about three weeks. Not fun for either of us. He was a good, patient man with a loving heart. Such a blessing to have him for nearly 44 years.
Started another editing job today. It has been over a year since doing any of that. This one is for a doctoral thesis. Helped the same lady with her master's thesis a few years ago. She is teaching now, and her subject is --of all things--accounting. Grayson might find that interesting. He is currently working on his master's in accounting. Can't imagine going on for a doctorate! But then, she knows her stuff and enjoys teaching.
Other than rearranging the feed bins into the greenhouse, not much got done around here today. Still looking at those dog prints on the kitchen floor. Maybe tomorrow. It is so easy to put things off.
Now that the wind has stopped blowing everything up and over, maybe our senses will adapt to the silence so it will be a good night for sleeping. May each of you be blessed with calm, rest, and peace. You are loved.
