One of These Days.

Wooooo whoooo! Got the kitchen floor mopped! Finally! Also cleaned the oven and stove, the sides of the dish washer, the base boards, the wall behind the stove and dishwasher, and cleaned up the counters. While on that general roll, also got the rugs washed and the sheets changed and washed. So, a day that can be called "one of these days."

Was so sad to see that Charlie Anderson has somehow come down with covid. Not understanding why since he stays at home, only does drive-bys and hasn't been around anyone. Maybe it was a false positive test. That happens. At any rate, please pray for him. He lives alone in Okla-doggone-homa. Think he has folks who check on him and will be there if he needs something, but still.

Even though the kitchen floor is clean, put some books back in the hall bookcase and felt guilty because it really needs to be cleaned out and well dusted. Maybe sometime this weekend. Not tomorrow, however, as the dogs have to go for a Bordetella booster shot. Think that is like whooping cough for dogs. Whatever, they are seldom around any dogs unless it is touching through the fence, but not sure exactly how the virus is contracted. Just want them to stay healthy. As it is, Thompson has the itch, but don't feel that the price of the pills he was taking is going to fit into my budget. Even Chewy listed the pills for $2.29 per pill. Kinda expensive. Maybe through a Canadian pharmacy it would be cheaper, but seriously doubt that Western Hills Vets would send the prescription to them the way my personal doctor does for some of my meds.

Twenty-six fowls out in the back yard, and nine of those are pullets which won't be laying until February or March, so a dozen eggs a day is pretty good considering that at least four of them are molting. But today there were only ten eggs. But that is ok. They sing and keep me entertained. Not having the Hamburgs to chase around has made a big difference in the exercise to egg ratio. Grinning here! BillyeRuth won't be chasing chickens around her barn every day. They will either go in or not. Now if they will just cooperate and lay their eggs where she wants them. Wait until she finds out that the Hamburgs like to hide their eggs. Talk about an Easter egg hunt! In the herb garden box, in a bucket in the workshop, in a basket in the shelves of the workshop--just any ol' where it seems weird is where they lay eggs. They like close to the floor, so she won't have to look high, just low.

Have another mystery book started. Can't imagine how silly this murder mystery is: the body was found in the bathtub, and he was dressed in a tux. Personally, am betting he was kept on ice in the basement before his body was put in the tub. Meanwhile, the main character is a private detective who just happens to be a friend of the movie star in whose house the guy was found. If these folks in the books had morals as good as an alley cat, they would never have the problems they have!

One of the things that has changed so drastically in books since the old woman started reading back in the early 50s is the morality of characters. Mother's books she had in our library at home were all very Christian books. No extra marital affairs or other garbage. ONE book by Lloyd C. Douglas "inferred" that the woman had died in childbirth because she would not go see a doctor because she was not wed. It took me many years to understand some of the sideways wording of things in Mom's books. But then, most of the books we got from the Henrietta Library were only suitable for our ages. Or we could read history or some fantasy. Read the Martian Chronicles as a kid. Today those books are too tame for young people. But then, the kids are already seeing sex and sin in movies and TV series these days. Maybe that is the reason that most movies and series don't appeal to me. Stuck in my own way of thinking.

Have to decide how to plant some flowers that should be seen out front. Think the herb box is going to have some tulips in it this year and some allium. Those are so pretty. Bought a box for Jennifer and one for me as well. Have some beet seeds to plant in the flower bed that should be kinda pretty, too. Love the glossy green leaves of beets. Noticed that the city workers were removing the sweet potato vines from the medians the other day. They will probably put pansies out instead. Each year they lose so many of those flowers when someone comes along and takes a "few." They have to replace them or the beds look really lopsided. At least it is not trees folks are taking.

Still have not gone in the back room and put glaze on these plaques. More than one needs to be done, so it will just be a couple of hours of work. Still, getting started is the hard part. No stopping is a good thing when the two liquids are poured together. And the stirring is supposed to be timed. That means the dogs have to stay out of the bedroom while this is going on. No phone calls either. Oh well. We will see if it can be done even if it means being a little careful with all the stuff that is needed. Drip cloth, plastic gloves, disposable cups, disposable brushes. All that stuff has to be disposed of carefully as it makes fumes within the plastic. How anyone ever came up with this idea is beyond me. But it is a pretty surface afterwards.

Both dogs are hanging off the end of the couch looking out the window toward the highway. This morning they saw a squirrel. Of all the carrying on! Thompson beat it out the back door and barked it away. Sylvia barked from inside so it could not get in the house either. Very protective dogs. No squirrels allowed.

Let us remember to pray for President Trump, his family, and others who are trying to keep the keel level in the ocean of problems. Let us pray for those like Charlie who have contracted this virus. May God help them to overcome the problems associated with it and breathe easy as they recover.

May you all stay healthy and happy. You are loved.
