Another One of Those Nights.
Waking up at 12:30 and knowing one is wide awake is not the
best way to get a good night’s rest, but at least there was a good book to
read. By 3:30 the old woman was back in bed and slept until 6:30. All in all, the
hours added up even if they were disrupted for whatever reason by the tendency
to wake up like a light bulb! Funny thing was that Jennifer was having the same
problem in West Virginia. Must be genetic.
Still getting one to zero eggs per day. Not sure just what
the deal is, but these hens are definitely knocking off on the job. This keeps
up, they may just have to find another home. Nah, not really. Love watching
them and listening to them chuckle and say pucka pucka. Eventually they will
get settled down from whatever is bothering them. Can tell you one thing for
sure, the floor under the roosts is positively covered with black feathers.
Molting is definitely under way. Told Anne the other day about having a hen named
Dolly Parton for those big white breasts on her front. Anne rolled her eyes at
me, and then she laughed when she found out that another hen was named Jolene.
Jolene was the one that went broody and wanted to stay in the nest for weeks
this summer. Kept dropping her happy tail feathers in the water trough so that
she finally just got to the point that she sat on the edge of the trough. It
was hilarious!
Had all kinds of good intentions of getting things done
today, but other than getting all the laundry folded and put away, nothing much
happened except cooking for my dogs. Need to make a trip to Wally World
tomorrow and pick up some more meat. Don’t really like to go over there. Much
prefer Market Street. At least they have real checkers at Market Street.
Noticed this morning that the sign in front of the trailer
house has changed to a different realtor. May ask why if given the chance.
Seems to me that if a person brings a house in, that person would be the one
wanting to sell it. But what does an old woman know?
Went down and let Patty’s dog get out and run around for
about thirty or forty minutes. We visited while trying to keep up with those
two critters. The weather was SO nice this morning with a cool breeze. But we
need a rain desperately! Here Florida is flooded along with some of South
Carolina and we are dying of thirst! Noticed that our city has asked us to
conserve as much as possible. Anyone can tell that no water is actually wasted
around here because everything is brown or just plain dirt. Not any green grass
out there at all. Sigh
Someone on the news on AOL mentioned that they wanted Putin
to consider a milder form of nuclear attack. Not sure just how that is supposed
to work, but it sounds like insanity to me. Even though we know that God allows
men to be in positions of power, it does not keep us from shaking our heads and
rolling our eyes when we see what is being considered. Sometimes the headlines
make me wish for a place out in the wilderness near a stream of decent water, a
place to have family and friends, and just what a person needs to get along
during all kinds of weather. Isolationist viewpoint, right? Still, we are
living IN this world even if we are not really a part of the insanity, greed,
cruelty, and inhumanity. May God quickly bring His kingdom.
Really don’t know much. Asked Lesli today if they got the results
back from Anne’s tests, but they had not called her. So, she and Erin know only
what Dr. Parkey has told them before. Her body will be the determining factor
in what they have to do for her. Les told me that even though she had asked me
to keep an eye on her, no way should the old woman go over there too often.
Once a week is about it for me. Driving still hurts, but that may just be
tension. Anyway, we will see what the next week brings.
Let us pray for peace. Pray for those who have been lost to
war, to floods, to insanity in this world. Let us practice love knowing that it
is the most valuable way to live our lives.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
