Batting Averages.
Sterling and Jacqui were over at the park where Henrietta
has a place for travelers to pull in with the trailers of all kinds. They like
that place. And Sterling wanted a new battery for his trailer so the sides
would slide out better or something. He did not know of a place to buy a
battery on a Sunday, so it seemed to me O’Reilly’s might have what he needed.
They came, they purchased a battery, came here, and we went to Chicken Express.
They were still bragging about the chicken livers that they got from my house a
few days ago. So, Jacqui had chicken livers again. Anyway, supper is done, they
have headed back to Henrietta, and the old woman is about ready to talk to the
hens about going to bed early.
Really enjoy visiting with them. Jacqui is slower than
Sterling, but he just gives her a hard time and she reminds him that it could
be him. Think she gives about as good as she gets. We talked about the
different bulls we had had dealings with when we were kids. Granddad Kennedy
had one bull that he did not raise that was a bit of a mean critter. It charged
Sterling when he was riding Nelly and knocked them down. Thankfully that never
happened to me, but the bull that had to be chased from Douhitt’s pasture got
his hind end bumped when Daddy had to get him back in Granddad’s pasture. My horse
was much faster on the whirl than ol’ Nelly ever hoped to be. Just had to keep
him far enough from Douhitt’s cattle to not have to chase him out of the herd.
The four heifers he took with him were not that much of a problem, but that
bull was hard headed. He never gave us any more trouble after Daddy bumped him
home with the truck.
It's been a fairly quiet day. Have read two books and
started on another. Love these little mysteries! Romances are nice and all
that, but at my age, well, let’s face it: who wants to be tied up in someone
else’s family. Everyone my age already has a family and grands or great-grands.
That takes quite a bit of adjusting for everyone. Better off to just have
friends—just friends.
Have pretty much stayed off the computer today except for
one game called June’s Journey. Have not even messed with looking at the news.
Not much will change for a while. Early voting begins in Texas on October 24
when Patty and the old woman will go up to the mall and get it done. Will drop
Patty and a walker off at the doorway area, park her car, and then we’ll get ‘er
done. Gotta make sure that the fake Beto does not get any votes extra.
Talked to Jennifer last night and they have a cruise
planned for someplace south of Texas. Will be hoping the storms avoid the
places they plan to go. Really wish we could get some rain, and it used to be
that hurricane season meant we would get rain. Would not want rain at the cost
of lives and destruction if that is the only way we can get rain. We may all
have to figure out a way to dig for water instead of oil at the rate we are
going.
Pray for peace. May God have mercy on this ol’ world and
all of His people. Even the creatures living with us need His protection. Let
us show love to others as He has shown love to us. You know that YOU are loved.
