Roadrunner Surprise!
Coming home from Spa Bella and parking the truck in the car
shed, looked up to see a roadrunner jumping up on the back fence. He/she did
not seem the least concerned that the dogs were both out back close to his
position. It made me smile. Thompson killed one in the hen coop last year and
it made me feel that might have been the last one in the neighborhood. So now
we can be assured that the roadrunner is on duty. Hope he is finding all the
snakes he can eat!
Dava did such a good job on my ole carcass. The muscles are
much more relaxed, and we had a good visit. She is such a sweet and pretty
person. Have been following the trips she takes with her husband and drooling
over some of the places they get to visit. Their last trip was cut short when
they tested positive for covid, but they plan to do the Alaskan cruise next
year or the year after that—but with the entire family! Sounds like fun since
they all like each other. That helps.
Sterling and Jacqui came back by earlier and brought three
airplanes for us. He mounted one on a post on my gazebo looking thing out
front. The other two are for Lance and Jennifer. He said that when the wind
gets to blowing a gale, the plane will almost sing, so this should be interesting.
Really would like to have one of those things that tells you how fast the wind
is moving, but they are rather expensive. A chain on the gate would probably
work just about as well. You know the routine: if the chain is blowing against
the gate, the wind is blowing; if it is hanging straight out in the wind, you
will need to hold your hat on; if the chain is whipping in the air, you need to
get out of the tornado!
Great minds think alike, or so it is said. Jennifer went to
get a massage the other day while Aunt Caroline was having her nails done.
Sounds like she has found a good spa partner!
One of the black-laced Wyandottes left an egg in the nest
for me. Just one. Guess one out of thirteen (twelve that should be laying) is
not too bad considering that they are all actively molting. Feathers are
everywhere! Athena is really too old to lay now. But she is still a pretty
bird. She still has the bossy attitude that she has had since day one, too.
Funny how that has worked out.
So many people have been affected by the hurricane off the
southeast coast. One of the ladies was begging for help for her daughter who is
about to have a baby a few weeks too early because of all the stress. She is a
single mother with a child already and an apartment with seven inches of flood
water draining out of it. Makes me wish helping from a distance were not so
impossible. The mother of this young woman has her own physical restrictions,
so it is not like she could go get the daughter and her babies. Life is hard
sometimes.
We have no rain in our forecast. It is sad to see my trees
and the ground turning brown and browner. Still have a black trough out on the
deck for the dogs. Thompson went out and sat down in it to soak his old body.
Guess it is a good way to stay cool. The hens have big black water bowls, but
the wild birds tend to use those bowls for bathtubs! Sometimes the water only
has to be changed once a day and other times more often. How they get it so dirty
is beyond me.
Supposed to go out to eat with Jacqui and Sterling when
they get back over here. We have to go in my truck, however, because they have
a toolbox in the back of their truck. Haven’t thought too much about where to
go unless they want to go to Chicken Express or something of that nature. Fed
them roast chicken last night, so they may want something different. Guess we
could go to Pioneer on Maplewood and have fish baskets or even a steak.
Sterling does not like beef because he says it is too hard to chew. Understand
completely. That is the same reason my daddy said that they started buying pork
roasts—it was always easier to eat.
Patty said something about voting the other day and
wondering if we should do the mail-in ballot. As long as Beto does not get the
vote in Texas, the rest of it may not matter. It just seems pretty impossible
to believe that the last election was up to snuff. Lots of people disagree with
me—and others agree. It just seems strange to me that 51% of Americans would
vote for Biden. But at this point, may just stay at home and pet the dogs and
feed the hens and not worry about even one iota of political bovine excrement.
Know less than usual due to my “don’t give a rat’s back leg”
attitude. Hope that we can show others the love that God has given us. We must
pray for others first because we know that we are already known by our Father.
Let us reflect that knowledge.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
