Erratic Inevitabilities.
Have you ever noticed or thought that when something needs
to be done—even just ONE thing—that any number of things have to be done around
the same time? Well, that has been this day. Thought of changing the sheets and
doing some laundry, but felt like warmed over crud this morning. Lay back down
for about an hour until Sterling called. He and Jacqui will be here tomorrow if
nothing rips, rears, or ravels. That meant cleaning the floors from the back to
the front. Got that done. Needed to pick up a few things from Market Street.
The few ended up being several more than that, but at least a gallon of white vinegar
(for the drains) made it into my cart. After everything was totaled, it was a
bit over $170 for those FEW things. Oh well. It is just money, right? Jennifer
promises that no one takes it with them. With that in mind, scheduled a massage
for Wednesday and a facial for Thursday. Giving myself permission to waste
money on my body really does sound extravagant, but sometimes it pays to feel
better about yourself.
Got a message from Lisa Carden in Oklahoma that the baby we
had been praying about died. Know how hard that is on parents when they lose a
little one so very young. We can pray that parents in that situation will be
able to have peace and find a way into joy knowing that the child is in the hands
of God.
Erin messaged me back this morning to say that his mom is
still confused but not in pain. Not a lot can be done about confusion when it
is based on both medications and physical illness. Some situations are just
inevitable—old age is one that not everyone will get to enjoy—or endure. Have
heard all my life that getting old is both hard on folks and a privilege to
have toward the end of our lives. Then you have undoubtedly heard that old
German saying: too soon old, too late smart. Yep. Know all about that one.
Would have become a biologist with a chemistry background if the old woman had
been the least bit smart. All those rag weeds could have become biofuel!
Have my saddle blanket across the seat of the recliner, and
it is covered in black dog. Thompson really thinks that chair is his, thank you
very much. It really does not bother me most of the time unless sitting in my
office chair gets tiring. It is still easier to sit in the office chair the way
a person is supposed to sit rather than with one leg swung over the armrest on
the recliner. Yes, it is not the most ladylike position, but who really gives a
rat’s back leg?
Wish the heat that we are having now had been the kind we
had had all summer. This is tolerable. Still only got one egg today, but at
least the hens seem to be happy enough. They come out of the coop and stick
together running around the yard. Nary a grasshopper out there. Did see a
couple of Monarch butterflies, and one of another kind came floating over the
place the same day. Hope the Monarchs don’t all die out because of this stupid
weather.
Western Mexico is about to be hit by a major storm. It
looks pretty big on the map, but not much telling if the map is any real
indication of the intensity of the winds. One lady in the wilderness group
lives in Mexico and says it is a wonderful place to live on a limited income.
She has a home, a cook, a maid, a gardener, and fresh fruits all year long.
That sounds good to me. But then, maybe she is in an area that the drug lords
don’t want to attack. Otherwise, she would also need a few Cruise missiles or
something. One of my students was from Ecuador and said that it was the best
place for Americans to retire because they had their own community and could
live on the income they get each month and still have all the good things
people there have. Sounds great unless there is a revolution going on like they
had in Venezuela.
Tony Zupkus is down in the south pasture with a weed eater
trying to chop down the grass that grew when the City of WF left a fire hydrant
leaking for over a month. And WE are on water restrictions, of course. If we
don’t get some real rain and soon, we are going to be up that famous creek.
Have been thinking about planting some bulbs in the front
flowerbed next to the porch where a little bit of water would keep things
going. Don’t remember the name of the flowers, but they make this tall stem
with a wild looking purple flower bursting out of the top. Think that and
morning glories would do the trick of at least making things feel a little more
cared for. May have to get on Amazon and see what kind of bulbs are there for
the best price. One year, Lowe’s had them, and the price was actually decent.
Ah, if wishes were fishes, the whole world would swim.
Guess it is a good time to go be still and read for a
while. This day started early and will not end until after eight when it is
time to close the doors on the hen house.
Remember to pray for peace, for help for those in war
zones, for those in the path of these stupid storms, and for those who can’t help
themselves.
Rest and know: you are loved.
