Funny Books.
Not the kind kids buy at discount, the books in my Kindle
right now are the funniest kind—mature woman leaves cheating husband and
becomes involved in several mysteries, first aboard a cruise ship, and then in
various parts of the world from Miami to Japan and parts of the desert kingdom
of some made up nation. Honestly, Steve Higgs makes me laugh and get excited at
what he has this woman doing to solve mysteries! Having just finished the first
set of ten Patricia Fisher mysteries, now the second set have been downloaded
and opened on my Kindle. How will my children ever know how much good they did
when they presented me with a Kindle (prime) and a notepad big enough to easily
hold in one hand or two? Now this little detective lady is addicted to gin and
tonic, but that would not do for an old woman like me. G2 is about my speed, ya
see. But oh! Love these stories! THEY are addictive! Anyway, it is an easy and
fun way to keep busy just reading and laughing.
Not sure if it will do any good to talk to these thirteen
hens, but not getting any eggs is getting pretty old. Cleaned out the coop the
other day, and now it is at least six inches deep in feathers again! How could
they all possibly molt at the same time?? Oh well. The only laugh obtained from
Anne the other day was from explaining to her why one hen is named Dolly Parton
and another named Jolene. She rolled her eyes at me and chuckled. At least she
was listening.
Still have a black rubber water trough on the deck, and two
dogs who live here keep stepping into it, sitting down, and then walking into
the kitchen with wet feet. Yes, we know whose fault it is. So what! It is ok
for me to gripe since we know who has to clean up after them, right?
Had all kinds of plans for today and then woke up with a
headache at 4 a.m. Got up at 4:45 and stayed up. Cut up the pork roasts to put
in Ziplock bags so it is easier to feed the dogs each meal. They are not overly
demanding, but they tell me when they want something. Of all the “talking” they
do—well, mostly Thompson does the talking. Sylvia just barks at me. She also
steals my chair! But then, she lets me have it back once in a while.
Jennifer said she has been waking up at 3 a.m. Think we
have discussed the possibility that this nonsense is genetic. If getting a
headache is handed down in our genes, someone needs to go back up the line and
visit with someone about taking out that particular piece of genetic material.
Dadgum~ She did seem to think that Aunt Caroline is doing very well after her
back surgery. Let’s just hope that she avoids the BLTs the way she is supposed
to do so that nothing comes back to hurt later. BLTs, by the way, are bends,
lifts, and twists of the spine. It really is difficult to remember not to do
those things since we have ALWAYS done them. The belt they put on us after
surgery is supposed to remind us to behave, but that comes off about two to
three weeks after the surgery and then it is up to the individual to remember
what to avoid. And yes, it definitely makes a difference how much that spine is
moved. In my case, it still gives me fits to use my upper body muscles and right
knee. Oh well. Eventually it will either get better or the old woman will just
take it as part of getting older.
Got my water bill the other day and found that it was $20
cheaper. Suspect that the meter was not even read last month. Guess it does not
matter much. If it does not rain soon, we are going to have to start buying
water from Arizona or somewhere. Ahem. Mexico? It used to be that hurricane season
brought us rains. Not this time. We have hurricanes on both sides of the
continent and no rain in the middle. Floods on either side and fires down the
middle. Let’s pray that God takes pity on one and all. Critters need the rain
as badly as we do. And then the critters are drowning on the edges all the way
around. In my feeble mind, the picture is one of a soaked sponge being thrown
in a microwave! Just horrible!
The news has not become any less horrifying with battles,
kidnappings, explosions, and threats of nuclear war. May God have His kingdom
come soon!
You know the eventual outcome of God’s plans, so let us
continue to practice as much love as we are able. Pray for those who live in
fear and uncertainty. Let your rest be in His hands. You are loved.
