Just Waiting for My Girl.

 Just Waiting for My Girl.

Jennifer is on her way to my house currently. Sitting here thinking about what to feed her for dinner. Have frozen meals—roast beef, rice/broccoli chicken meals, and even a pizza around here. Guess it will depend on what she wants.

Kathy’s husband came around 8 this morning to pick up several bags of dog things: towels, blankets, dog beds, and some treats. He had a load to put in his truck anyway. Hoping that Kathy feels much better after being jerked down on her ribs and hip. After 50, nothing is so easy as to lie down and groan! It just is not easy to bounce back the way we did when we were younger.

Started on Revelation again. Each time requires me to do research on terms. Apparently, the Nicolatans believed in immoral sex (fornication) and eating meats offered to idols. If we go back into other places in the NT, we can see that the purchase of meat in the markets was not forbidden, but to purposely buy meat offered to idols would have been something else again. However, fornication is forbidden in every manner. Some of these folks seemed to overthink things to excuse their behavior. The idea that fornication was perfectly forgivable after the eighth day is just stupidity. It reminds me that Congress has a fund for the members who are accused of sexual misconduct that covers any legal action against them simply because they are a member of Congress. And Americans pay that bill!! So, it looks as if they are excused from bad sexual conduct.

It was grey again today. Would certainly enjoy seeing some sunshine and warmth, but it looks as if we may get some rain and then freezing weather next week including the Thursday that we had hoped to have the Route 66 Group meeting. That may go by the wayside. Sigh

Guess it is time for me to admit that spring has not even considered springing forward. Think the clocks go forward on the 17th of this month. The hens don’t really give a cluck what the clocks say. They get up when it is daylight and go to roost when it starts getting less light out. Then there are a few who insist on jumping the gate and scratching up the tulip and other bulbs in the front yard. Sigh. Oh well. They are happy hens.

Let us pray for those who are dealing with this flu and other illnesses right now. No one wants to be sick, but it takes being really careful to avoid illnesses.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Another Froggy Day.

 Another Froggy Day.

Katy messaged me early this morning that she had been jerked down by one of the dogs yesterday and could not walk, so she won’t be coming today, but her husband is going to pick up all these bags of things for the dogs. Then Patty called and said she wanted to wait at least another week before taking Roxie in to see the vet. So, my day has completely changed just this morning.

Woke up to heavy fog outside. The sun may eventually shine, but for the moment, it is like a thick veil between my house and Patty’s place. Amazing not to even be able to see the lake! Have plenty to do around here without needing to travel.

It really gets to me when my internet says that it is not connected. Reboot, and then go unplug the stupid button to the little black box and hope! ARGH!! Makes no sense whatsoever, but there it is.

Nothing has turned out the way this day was supposed to go, but have decided it simply does not matter. And the same may be true of tomorrow as well. Maybe a good night’s sleep will make a difference in my attitude at least.

Apparently, the flu is making the rounds—type A or type B? Who knows. You can almost bet that if we got the vaccine for A, it will be B that is flying our way. Such is life. Let’s just pray for those that get this mess—especially the littles and elders.

Down another hen today. She had water on her body, and Roger sent me a video about how to get rid of it, but that doesn’t get rid of what causes it. Sterling said it is better to lose a sick one than take a chance on the entire flock getting whatever she had. Sigh. Sometimes it makes me wonder about how these things spread. Yes, wild birds out the kazoo around here, but this is not a symptom of that stuff. Just rather not have to buy eggs or even chicken meat if it is so easily spread. Hoping that God will protect us all from these diseases.

Forgive me for writing nothing positive tonight. The old woman is simply tired and feeling ready to see some sunshine. Green grass is beginning to show up, but really need some vitamin D from the sun. Let us praise God for seasons and sunshine.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

NOT Rain, but Moisture.

 NOT Rain, but Moisture.

Woke up to see the neighbors’ “yard” of cement covered with wet stuff. Slept so hard that even if the weather notice came across my phone, the old woman just noticed slightly and went right back to sleep. Those stupid pills really work at times. Glad Dr. Blackwell knows what she is doing.

Sitting here drinking spiced chai and thinking about ordering some for a grandson who likes teas. This stuff is just delightful. It only has a little bit of caffeine in it, too.

These two dogs are “sharing” a fluffy bed and playing big mouth. That is their favorite game. Silly and sweet. They ate the Wuffles right down and now want a treat. Can’t think the Wuffle is all that great or they would ask for that instead. Oh well. What do any of us know about the tastebuds of dogs?

Hoping that Michelle Malay makes it here today to pick up her eggs and a couple of things for her dogs. Have two sweaters that will fit her Bloodhound Maggie Mae and an extra-large dog bed for her as well. It is a hand-me-down from Max, Donny and Patty’s older dog who has already gone over the rain bow bridge.

Really need to take Sylvia to PETS clinic to get her nails trimmed and see a vet so we can have another prescription for Bravecto. She does not really like to travel in the truck without Thompson, but the two of them are simply too much for my ability to handle. Maybe tomorrow, but will have to see if an appointment is necessary.

Ordered a couple of shoe/boot spoons with long handles. Landon got one for Lewis years ago, but it was plastic and was broken from the tip so it couldn’t be used. Hoping this will work for me so it won’t be so difficult to slip into the “Sloggers” that Jennifer got for me to wear to the chicken house.

Plan to order another copy of a book about Revelation. Had one and gave it away, but that is one book of the Bible that takes some deep thinking and research. Until it comes, may go back and write up a synopsis of the main points of things from Acts through Jude. That should keep me busy and out of trouble. HA! Will have to call Sterling and get the name of that author we were following.

Will see Katy (Brooks) and give her this load of stuff for the dogs tomorrow. If any of you in this area have dog beds, old towels or blankets, would be happy to get them to her for the dogs she rescues. These are older or special needs dogs that no one would adopt. She has a heart of gold to take care of those creatures.

Well, Katy is going to help me tomorrow to get Sylvia to the vet. Sylvia is a little to hard for me to lift when she has trouble getting in the backseat of the truck. If Katy has a muzzle, we can do it together. But have to take Roxie to see the vet at Colonial Park first thing in the morning. Such fun. Getting everything done that really has to be done in a day can be a real challenge!

It makes me glad that the old body, as creaky as it may be, still has enough get up and go to get a few things done to my satisfaction. May never ride another horse or raise another batch of baby chicks, but even so, the efforts have been worth it. Good memories. Guess planting flower seeds will have to be about the best an old woman can do at this age.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Laughing at Forecasts.

 Laughing at Forecasts.

By this coming Sunday, we may have freezing weather again. And somehow it seemed as if it were about to get warmer. So much for what “seemed” to be! Dear Hearts, it is cold outside!

Ran an errand for Patty and then went to the doctor’s office for blood work and was back to Patty’s place before noon. No slacking this morning, at least. She had cleaned out a linen closet and another closet and had big plastic bags of towels, blankets, dog beds, harnesses, and cute dog clothes. Sent a message to Katy Brooks so she would know this stuff is here and ready to go. Patty suggested that some of the cute little dog dresses could be sold on eBay to help feed the dogs. She and Donny got the dogs when they were about six months old, and she had bought cute things before they were even grown, so they got too big for the things. Oh well.

Not sure if it is the “weather knee” or the “weather back” that is causing me more pain, but a couple of pain pills helped considerably. May have to talk to Dr. B about getting a prescription sent to the online pharmacy so that they come in the mail. SO much easier for me—and cheaper. Honestly did not think the pills were doing any good at all, but took two at the same time and felt much better.

Cooked two big whole chickens in the roaster yesterday and deboned them today. Put some up in the freezer for the dogs and some up there for me. Then made a broccoli, rice, cheese, and chicken casserole. Not bad! Could have used more veggies, but still. But then veggies are my favorite food.

Took a shower this morning and felt as if it were a totally new shower head or something. Talk about water pressure! That was so very nice. Great plumbing!

Gave the dogs their Bravecto this morning. They only have to have it every three months, but it certainly does make a big difference in how they react to stuff like mosquitoes and fleas—the fleas simply don’t bite them. And they stay in the house most of the time when the mosquitoes are out. And yes, my house smells as if a dog or two live here.

Think it is more necessary than ever that we pray for the children and adults who are being devastated by different forms of cancer. Raye (granddaughter of my friend Diann Dennis) may lose her vision, my nephew Danny (59) is not a child, but the leukemia as made him a weak as a child, Mariellen Rose has started another round of chemo for leukemia, and Tami Yonts is losing more of her digestive tract to the stupid cancer. May God bless these and all of us. SO many things in our food, in the water, in everything we come in contact with have caused diseases of one kind or another. Wish we could all be gardeners who could grow our own food.

It still makes me almost ill to read any headlines, so it is just easier to hide my head in a good book or in THE good book. God knows that some of us can only deal with so much stress. It is not as if we don’t care; it is simply overwhelming to know about all the fighting, fury, evil, and horrors around us. May God bless us with peace—individually and as a nation.

Trying to think of something very positive to leave with you: Have been enjoying stories and examples of serving by J. John and Trent Tribe. Funny how little things in our lives can make such a difference in the lives of others. Always be willing to do something for others, even if it feels like a very small thing.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Wilbourne and McCabe Plumbing.

 Wilbourne and McCabe Plumbing.

The lavatory is now repaired and working correctly. The shower no longer has a drip and has more water pressure—as does the lavatory faucet. Can’t tell you how good it feels to have everything working correctly. And it did not cost an arm and a leg besides all that. Really like that company and the young man they sent to do the work.

Can’t tell you why the old woman is so very tired, but have quite a few things to do tomorrow, so let’s hope all the stuff gets done and the call made to the dog place to arrange for pickup of towels, dog beds, harnesses, and treats for little critters. Patty is slowly but surely moving out the stuff that she no longer needs. Roxie is a sweet little critter and keeps her happy right now. Just hoping that Roxie makes it as long as Patty does.

Put two chickens in the roaster today to cook for me and the dogs. They are done, but just slipped them into the fridge so they will be cool enough in the morning to debone. Maybe will have all the bones ready for the trash box and have the bin across the street before the trashman gets here tomorrow.

Really ready to get the hens put up and the evening sorted out so the old woman can get some sleep. This waking up at before sunrise-thirty is for the birds! Of course, they say the birds’ song helps the flowers know when to open and produce their pollen. So, there are reasons for everything in this world. Like listening to the music of the stars in the heavens, we know that everything praises God in song and light. It makes me feel joyous to know that His creation loves Him. Can we possibly do less?

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Here's Hoping.

 Here’s Hoping.

Made some good gravy with the drippings from the roasts cooked yesterday. It was just enough for one small pan, but that was enough. Had some roasted potatoes with onions along with slices of roast beef. Anyway, it was a good brunch. Then some kind of Chinese stuff with squash, peppers, and more onions for din-upper worked out pretty well. Most of that is back in the fridge for leftovers that will do for breakfast. Chinese noodles have a tendency to be just a bit chewy—which is ok. But the veggies and chicken chunks are not overpowered by the noodles. The dogs would be happy to enjoy most of the noodles—probably.

My little CooCoo Marans that has not been able to get on the roost is still doing fair to middlin’. She may need some “water drainage” like a video that Roger sent to me. Found a needle that would probably work, but really hate to attempt to drain her like the lady on the video did to her hen. Taking care of livestock—or just the pets in the house—can be pretty hard to do. Once in a while, Sylvia gets her bite of Wuffles or whatever stuck down beside her teeth, and the old woman has to go fishing to get it out so she can finish eating it. So far she has not bitten me.

Truly am hoping the plumber makes it here tomorrow. SO very tired of cleaning my teeth in the kitchen rather than in the bathroom. Sometimes it makes me wonder how folks took care of their teeth years ago when they did not have indoor plumbing. You know, the Bible says that God puts us in the “times” in which He has chosen to have us live, and has set before us the things which He has chosen for us to do. It reminds me that he set boundaries for certain kingdoms and things which they would accomplish. Curious way to have one’s life foreordained—both world governments and individual lives.

Will remind you about Daniel who saved all the lives of the Magi—the ones who told the king what would happen. They had no clue what the king dreamed, so he was going to have them ALL put to death. Daniel asked for one night and said that God would let him know. And He did. Daniel proved that God was with him by letting him know what the king had dreamed and what it meant. So, Daniel became almost like a king in those kingdoms. The rest of the magi had to respect that Daniel know what he was talking about. DANIEL was the one who taught them from that point on. And they believed him. He let them know that a king would be born, and they would follow a star to the place that he would be found. Sure enough, six hundred years after Daniel taught them, the Magi came from the East to honor the king. Pretty interesting.

Let us remember to pray for those who are fighting the diseases of this world. Let us try to protect ourselves and our families from the chemicals that have caused so much distress in our food and water.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.

Cooking for Myself!

 Cooking for Myself!

Picked up groceries this morning—letting them pick up stuff off the shelves and load it into my truck. Came home and put two roasts in the oven. Mighty tasty eating. Sliced up some pieces to put in Ziplock bags and had some for din-upper. Also, cooked some parmesan cauliflower. Anyway, it was nice to have hot food that tasted good. Tomorrow will make some gravy from the drippings from the meat. Here’s hoping my memory will serve me well so it turns out good and not like school paste.

United’s person substituted one thing that didn’t really work. They have some “bones” that have beef and pork hide in them. Not going to happen. Have heard horror stories of dogs eating hide and getting all stopped up with it. The dogs had some of the fat from the roasts, so that had to do for a tasty treat.

Have not turned on the computer today and Patty told me it was just as well. Another plane accident happened. So very sad. We simply don’t realize how much danger is out there just on the highways when compared to the airways. But when a plane goes down, it is not a small thing that is isolated to only a few families. Guess all we can do is pray for those families and whoever needed to direct their flights.

Talked to Sterling today, and we decided that dreams are important or maybe at least significant for our happiness. He will be 80 in June. Our parents and grandparents all made it to 85 or there about. All I can do is pray for his health and happiness. He knows his sister will never leave Texas, but he is relatively happy where he is. And the same is true for me. Getting to talk to him and love him is about the best we can ask for right now. We remember some of the same things, but differently. Memories are never the same with any two people, but are shadows of what has gone before in our lives. If we had known then what we know now, would our lives have been different? Guess it really doesn’t matter. God set the times for our lives before we were ever conceived and put before us what He expects us to do with the life He gave us. About the best thing we can do is thank Him daily for life and the love He has given us. My prayer is that my heart will be right in line with what He wants from me. And then let my heart be filled with love for Him and for my brothers and sisters.

Patty told me that she saw a free Bible course offered by Liberty University—deeply Southern Baptist started by Falwell and then later his son who is no longer with them. Think it might be worth looking into, so, who knows, maybe one of these days some of the Word will cling better to the old woman’s memory.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
