The Flock.
One Black Marans is all of those that are left except for a
Coo-Coo Marans. Theirs are the eggs that look like dark chocolate. They are not
necessarily the most friendly birds, but they certainly have good, strong eggs.
A person gets used to having the pretty black birds among the hens and might
notice that wild birds stay away from these big girls. They must look like big
black crows to other wild birds. Hated to have another one die, but that is
just how things are with any critters. We can love ‘em and pet ‘em, but they
have an expiration date just the same as the rest of us.
It rained off and on most of the night, but the dogs did not
ask to go out or get restless enough to bother me much. Just mostly read today
and goofed off. Still sleepy as if there were a good reason for it. Still
sneezing and coughing, but otherwise feel fine. Even so, as soon as the coop
doors are shut tonight, this ol’ woman is going to bed. Will try to get the
dogs to make their last outing about that time.
Have been enjoying nuts and berries as a mixture lately and
ate the last of it this morning. Not sure how many calories are in those
things, but really not sure it matters. Will be making salmon and salads
tomorrow if getting up to the store for some lettuce works out. Or, if laziness
persists, could just have salmon and lots of steamed broccoli! That stuff
tastes pretty good with a bit of butter and cheese. Have some cheese sticks
that need to be used up before long. Might have to whittle on them just a bit
first.
Have not even looked at Revelation today. Watched a couple
of Trent Tribe podcasts and read some uplifting messages, but did not feel up
to trying to understand anything deeper than words of encouragement. Sorry.
Some days are just necessary for taking things slowly.
Talked—well, texted—with my youngest Ostand grandson earlier
today. He got to teasing me about needing a theme song. He mentioned one, and
the old woman listened to it. Had to tell him he was WAY off. Mine would either
be Chariots of Fire, Ghost Riders in the Sky, or the Streets of Laredo. Marty
Robbins! Oh well. We definitely live in a different world. And the words to
songs were understandable when we listened. So there!
Lance sent me pictures of Codi’s puppies again today. They
are taking the one called Bella. They are so very sweet. Like me, Lance felt
that he is almost too old to start with a new puppy. He is not, but it
does take some dedication to start over with a new pup. Kinda thinking mine
might last as long as the old woman. Well, can hope so. Love them so very much.
If you ever get the least bit down, just look around you at
all the blessings we have been given. It’s green outside! The rain makes things
feel fresh. The birds are singing and happy. And things are beginning to bloom.
Yes, and we sneeze. Praise God for His love!
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
