Decent Day, Decent Jobs.
Had to put the dogs in their thunder shirts last night when
the wind, thunder, and lightning started. Got a VERY short shower, but will not
even gripe. Supposed to maybe get another shower tonight to increase the
humidity for the next several days. It figures. But maybe we won’t get anything
over 104 for several days at least.
Got out early and cleaned out the two main coops and replenished
the DE in the shelf in the middle coop. That stuff just makes it SO much easier
to clean up after the girls. May, one of these days, create something like that
shelf with sides in the front coop. Just need to rearrange the “junk” in long coop
so that the stuff along the outside of the workshop can be placed inside out of
sight. Don’t want this place looking as if Joe Bell lives here. A story goes
with that name—Joe Bell—because his “house” looked like some of these squatters’
places made out of junk and stuff. Would not want my daddy to think he had driven
up to notice a “Joe Bell” place!
Cooked some carrots and managed to walk away and let them
stick to the pan. Argh. But then got back to the kitchen and cleaned all the
pork meat off the bones and packed it into Ziplock bags. It is never just said
and done when buying meat for the dogs. Cleaning up the cooking utensils, deboning,
packing Ziplocks, and freezing the packages is all part of it. Oh well. It
beats trying to buy that fresh dog food in the stores. And the ingredients are
never a surprise. They may not exactly love carrots that have been slightly
scorched, but they will eat them.
Mentioned today to Sterling how hard this ol’ ground is, and
he reminded me of how Daddy dug the hole for our cellar. Each morning before he
left for work, he ran the hole full of water until is came just over the edge of
the work he did the day before. Then, that afternoon after work, with pick and
shovel, he dug out whatever could be taken out. Sometimes, Sterling said the
pick would just bounce on that ol’ clay! Don’t know how Daddy managed to get
the oil tank inside that hole to make it into a cellar, but it worked well for
years. The opening in the top where the oil field man would check the levels was
the air vent for the cellar. And with Mom and Dad both smoking like freight
trains, we definitely needed the ventilation!!
Still considering getting a small baby pool for the hens.
Every time the fountain gets more water in the pan, at least one hen has to
wade into the pan and drink out of the fountain. It seems to me that they just
enjoy getting their feet wet as much as drinking the running water. Not sure,
but they like things that move.
Lance plans to be here tomorrow. Looking forward to having him
here for the day. He always is happy to load feed for me or do any of the
number of things that are a bit much for an old woman. Really would not want to
live down there near the Metromess, but the one and a half to two hour drive up
here is not much fun in this heat. Well, and then the traffic on 287 is always
such a challenge.
Saw that WF is getting bids on taking down a hotel near the
river walk. The company that is giving it up gets to keep half of the land and
is getting out of the lawsuit that was held against them. Guess the next thing
will be the Sikes Mall. It seems the things that more or less made sense at one
time are just going by the wayside. Right now, if a woman wants clothes and doesn’t
want to go to Walmart or use Amazon, it’s either Cato’s or Kohl’s. Not much
left in the mall. Oh well. Maybe we all just need to reuse and make do.
The folks in Japan are concerned about the possibility of another
major earthquake. The trains are slowing down just to try to prevent any major
derailments, and that really does make sense. The government is suggesting not
going anywhere that is not essential also. It seems that they are trying to
employ common sense even more so than anyone in California ever considered. And
now, today, a big container ship blew up in China when someone forgot to plug
in the refrigerator on some chemicals that needed to be kept cold. Duh. From
one extreme to another, folks are either using common sense or entirely being
sloppy about taking care of things.
Meanwhile, our job is to pray. Not going to suggest a
place, a people, or a situation considering that hardly any of us are so unaware
of what is going on in this world. But it is totally up to God to direct the consequences.
All we can do is be as kind and considerate of others as possible. Let us trust
Him for the outcomes.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
