Peeling Off My Duds!

 Peeling Off My Duds!

Went to the feed store, unloaded the feed, chased the dogs down, and then went up to United. Thought about a Whataburger and decided for the same amount of money, could have three or four or more meals. By the time everything was unloaded and the truck put away, had to come inside and PEEL my clothes off. Dear Hearts, it is miserably hot out there!

The doggone trash man is at it again! He sits in the road in front of Patty’s gate and eats his lunch. Then he throws the fast-food wrappers out his truck window. What do you want to bet that this old gripey woman calls the office Monday and asks if his boss can remedy that situation. We put our trash in bags so that it doesn’t fly all over heck and half of Georgia, only to have him throw trash on the ground! Argh!

Roxy is having a bath today. The groomer just drove by with his little trailer behind his truck. Roxy may or may not appreciate being clean, but maybe at least one coat of that fluffy fur will go away! Can just look at her and she sheds! And she is surely not kin to any Huskies!

Talked to the neighbor’s granddaughter down on North Church Street to see if they were going to pick up eggs today. Seems her grandmother is in the hospital right now. Between the chemo and the shingles, the poor woman is about ready to give up! Can’t imagine. Of course, the chemo could have stressed out her body enough to cause the shingles, but from seeing what Sterling has been going through, it must really be horrible—whatever causes it.

Got the water bill yesterday. It was a bit higher than usual, but still stood out back and sprayed water under the deck for the hens. Fresh water in their bowls where the danged wild birds will come as soon as the old woman goes inside the house, but how those critters manage to get it so very nasty is just amazing! They think these are bird baths!

It’s nearly six now in the evening and it does not seem as if the heat is even a tiny bit less than earlier. It actually hurts to go outside and check for eggs. Could have hard boiled eggs in the nests at this rate. Feel for anyone who can’t find a cool place to sit or lie down right now. Remembering back to when Lewis used to work in this kind of heat. At least Darr was good about letting the men come in to work way early and leave early so that they did not have to work in the heat quite as much. But wondering how in the world the men who work on that road can stand it!

Finished roasting a pan of pork chops to feed the dogs. Put that meat up and cleaned all the pans and got them ready to put away. It sometimes amazes me to think about how much time it consumes just keeping things cleaned up and put up. From folding and putting away clothes to keeping the floors halfway clean, it is time consuming. And since the dogs have been using their water trough to cool off, the floors need to be mopped again. It will just have to wait a bit. No sense doing it every day if the dogs are going to go back and forth between the water trough and the kitchen floor! Right now, in order to try to keep the electric bill down a bit, have the living room closed off so that at least one room (in the front of the house) does not have to be cooled. Not too sure that Thompson appreciates not being able to get to “his” recliner, but such is life.

God made the seasons, but they say that we have caused some of these extremes by using fossil fuels and paving over most of the land and draining all the wetlands. It does seem somewhat reasonable to think these things. But even so, unless we have a way as individuals to make a real difference, am not sure that what we could do will help much. Reusing plastic bottles and filtering our water might be one way to make a difference, but again, it is such a small thing. Guess it takes one drop at a time to make a river, however.

Meanwhile, let us be thankful for all things with which God has blessed us. He gave us forgiveness and wants us to learn to love as He has done. That is one job that can be seen in every day actions. Let us give thanks!

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
