Umbrellas with Breakfast!
We actually had some rain for a little bit this morning.
While Lance was putting away some sawhorses and cutting down huge sunflower
stalks, it began to sprinkle. By the time we thought about going to the feed
store, it was doing a fairly good job of threatening rain. Rather than haul feed
in the rain, we just went to Pioneer on Maplewood and had some breakfast. It
was just too much food for both of us, so we got a big to-go box and brought
some home to the dogs. While at Pioneer, two older men came in with their
umbrellas and still looked as if they had plenty of rain blown on to them.
Another man had his little girl eating with him for breakfast and had clothed
her in a cute rain suit. She was just precious! What was truly funny was that
his clothes—while a different color and size—matched hers! Daddy and daughter
day!
Sent some “tech” jobs home to the oldest Dickerson kid. Lance
sent a message shortly after returning home to tell me that the little freezer
cubes still worked correctly but that the energy cubes used to plug them in
were the wrong size to charge them fully. Go figure. Those came with the silly
things! Oh well. Maybe the roaster sent home with Lance will be made to work
again while the tech person is doing the magic of repairing things.
Lance and Tracy also found a rather tall thing that swivels
with a fan that has a container for ice and water in it. The fan cannot cool a
room completely, but it certainly makes my living room feel better. Anyway, certainly
appreciated their thoughtfulness! This summer has been a booger!
Had the feed inside the middle coop with the door closed
today to attempt to keep the wild birds out. However, the hens acted as if they
were starved this evening when the door was opened. They had wheat, sunflower
seeds, and all the water and grass they could get, but only a small portion of lay
crumble was in a feeder out by the workshop. It still had crumble in it tonight
as well. Think it was just the idea that they did not have the regular feeder at
hand is why they acted all silly about the door being closed. Oh well. That means
the critters are creatures of habit—just like us.
Lance sent a picture of a tee shirt design that said: “Sons
of Arthritis—Ibuprofen Chapter” on it. Had to laugh and sent it to Jacqui. Guess
she showed it to Sterling, anyway, she said her shirt would have to say “daughters
of . . .” and the old woman sat here and nodded her head. The older we get, the
funnier some things seem to us. Like predicting the weather by the twinges in
our knees!
But let’s face it, not everyone is as privileged to get to
our age! God took care of us for so many years and through all of our
foolishness, and now we can appreciate watching others learn the same way we
did—one sore muscle at a time! Sitting here hoping that Lance is not sore
tomorrow from hauling feed to the workshop, rearranging the back yard,
repairing the fence, cutting out a couple of trees, and other assorted silly
stuff that the old woman finds difficult.
The weather is still reasonable this evening, but the fans
still make things feel pretty good. The hot stuff is supposed to be back tomorrow.
Sigh. Even so, this little cool spell offered hope. Keep remembering that we
can’t do anything about the past; the future is not promised; and God gives us
the present to appreciate life right this minute. And Dear Hearts, He has been
so very good to me and mine. Love my family and friends. Love this nation. But
most of all, the savior known as Jesus Christ has my undivided love. HE is the
source of my hope!
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
