Options or Choices.

Sometimes it just seems that too many options exist to make clear choices. Clean the hen house or clean the old hen's house? Dust the house or stir up the dust in the hen house? So, for today at least, one coop got raked out, and the dust raised in so doing. The dung dumped in the side lot will look as if a bird has disintegrated. But at least the coop floor is nice and neat looking tonight. In the morning it may not look all that great again. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow the living room will be dusted enough to remove all the dust from the TV table, and the kitchen floor MIGHT get mopped. Or not. Such decisions are determined in part by the amount of energy actually apparent in the cleaner of dust and the mopper of dirt. Never heard of a mopper? Well, moppee? Ya know, the old gal who swings the mop!

The day has been a mite colder than comfortable, but the weather watching has not promised any great improvements. That is one good reason that the water jugs have been refilled and the water bowl that has electricity to keep it from freezing has been emptied in preparation for clean water and another cold night. Again, the cabinet doors have to be left open and the water allowed to drip to prevent frozen water pipes. Such fun. Next house will have wrapped pipes with wires to keep them warm in the winter.

Called my daughter-in-law to give her a hard time this evening. Number one son answered her phone. Told him his voice just did not fit the bill. He makes a sorry secretary for her. chuckle Anyway, she said granddaughter was off to play another game in a tournament. Seems Rachel has made the only score a couple of times. Only ONE score per game. Sounds like a pretty hopeless game to me. But then, running was never my thing. This kid runs and jumps and kicks like a yearling in spring! And there is an entire field full of them doing that stuff! While her athleticism is admirable, it is just beyond my comprehension how they even keep up with what is going on out there. And in shorts in this weather!!

Made some remark to Tracy about not appreciating having to wear a belt with my pants. She recognized the problem immediately and reminded me that anything that required more than an elastic waist band was just not her favorite piece of clothing either. Going to work in something that actually required a zipper was not a happy day. Nodding my head when she said that. Love sweat pants!

Sent home a few dozen eggs with my sister-in-law. Told her to enjoy the chocolate eggs! Great big smile here. The Black Maran eggs look exactly like chocolate. Wow! Can you imagine what a price these hens would bring if that were REAL chocolate? She said she was going to go home and boil a dozen eggs. Don't think it will improve the chocolate part, but who knows.

It is getting difficult to go online to read my email because of the headlines covering the pages. Never have been able to disregard hatefulness no matter what. And right now the so-called news is purely hateful. God forgive us and help us to survive the duplicity and conniving of politicians. If this nation were a patient in a doctor's office, the diagnosis would be dire. And the only remedy would be worst than any chemo-therapy or cobalt treatment currently available. Sitting here shaking my head and trying not to let my thoughts be consumed with any form of contempt. The only thing we can do as individuals is to be as kind and loving as our resources and attitudes can allow. My friend Robin Christian is working at a food bank helping others who have nothing. THAT is a remedy. My friend Cindy Jones helps others by providing vegetables that are passed their "best used by" date. Her daughter Nikki gives others fresh milk and eggs to those who need it. Sharon Dickerson makes hats and ear warmers for those who need them. Not sure what is within my power to give, but surely a smile and prayer are better than nothing. Maybe the power of one is all it takes to do more than a little and make a difference. Let's ask God to help us make that difference.

No major, earth-shattering news from the hen house. It is quiet tonight. Suits me just fine. May each of you rest well and awake with joy. You are loved.
