Daddy used to have this saying: the wind blew; the shtuff flew; and we all had on paper hats. Let me tell ya, the wind has definitely blown today! Thought it was pretty rough yesterday, but today the hens have been sticking pretty close to the coop. Pretty sure they are trying to only lay those eggs once!
Used to listen to Skip McBride tell us about the weather and always wished to have one of those air speed things to mount on top of the house or somewhere. According to my phone, the wind speed was only 27 mph at four this afternoon. On top of this hill over the lake, it feels like a lot faster and much colder than the weather ever says. But still, we are Texans and learn to lean into it; and if our hats fly off, well, exercise is chasing down one of those gimme hats from the feed store. Or not.
It's supposed to freeze again tonight. Just have to grit our teeth and deal with it. Turn up the heater; open the cabinet doors; let the water drip. Look at the calendar. See that this month is half over. And don't turn the page 'cause February is next. Oh well.
Dr. Blackwell's nurse came to get eggs this afternoon. You know, those hens are doing a pretty good job of producing eggs. Sent four dozen home with Kissy the other day and three dozen home with Jennifer today. Yep, good hens!
Other than stripping the dog blankets off the couch and washing them, nothing special has been accomplished around here. But the couch looks neater with just two blankets instead of three or four. Going to have to take a needle and thread to the dog pillow to mend a spot on the side. How that dog does it is beyond me, but Sylvia has to paw things before she will lie down on anything. Crazy critter. At least the floor is mopped up a bit with all the rubber parts to her tennis balls swept up and thrown out. Now we only have sharks with wimpy tails lying around on the couch with the two dogs. And they have not even done any play fighting today. Think the wind upsets Sylvia. Noises do that to her. She curls up and snuggles down in a corner of the couch. Wish all three of us could do that, but only when the sun is shining straight through the windows and making it feel good. Pretty soon we will be pulling curtains to AVOID the sunlight in July and August! Ah well.
Have been getting more and more robo calls on my cellphone. Someone told me quite some time back that those could be prevented, but don't remember how or if it really worked. Oh well. They show up in red if the phone believes them to be spam, so they don't get answered. Now, if my BODY had a warranty, it might be interesting to get some work done! Sitting here thinking about Tami Yonts and her husband today. He is supposed to get a new knee today. Hope all went well for him. As big a deal as they have been making out of the "no beds available" business at the hospitals, it is surprising that he was able to go in for surgery. Noticed that a woman over in Scotland who got a liver transplant some years ago, is having to go for dialysis for her kidneys now. And the hospital couldn't take her because of the stupid virus. Things are just pretty messed up right now.
Glanced out the window to the north and thought the glass was dirty. Nope. Dust in the air. Figures. Maybe a good dust storm would kill the virus out there. Hmm.
As usual nothing exciting is happening around here--which is really just fine with me. Saw that Donny Anderson and cousin were off to the wilds again this weekend with their little buggy things that take them into the brush and out again. That motorized buggy is in case they get more deer or pigs than they can carry. One would about do it. As long as the snakes stay denned up somewhere else, it sounds like a nice cold weekend. Not my bag of tea, but know plenty of folks who like to do that stuff. See pictures that Diann Dennis takes of the rivers in Arkansas near where she lives. THAT would be my cup of coffee! But it is about two blankets too cool up that way for me. Ah, to be a tough ol' cookie.
Well, God will take care of us one way or the other. We can just watch and wait on His time. May you all rest well and stay healthy. You are loved.
